Same here. At least I've never noticed. We have hundreds of these trees from a few inches tall to over 20' tall all over our woods.

It is the main flavor for Root Beer, but now they use artificial Sassafras flavoring. I guess it's for good reason!

Hasn't been in about 40 plus years. But yes it was the main ingredient in root beer.

Large quantities will inhibit important liver enzymes and has been proven to cause cancer in lab rats. So make sure if you use it you do so in moderation.
