There are two active ingredients in oaks, tannic acid and quercin(I think that is how it is spelled).
Uses, by no means complete list just ones I have used.
1. Take very small twigs, preferably new growth, and break into tiny pieces. Place the
pieces in water to boil for 30 minutes or so. Drink for a cure for mild diarrhea.
2. Chew the inner bark from the trunk of the tree for a tootheache cure.
3. Tannic acid which can be easily gotten from acorns. Simply shell them then boil the
acorn meat to get the acid into a tea like solution. Drink it. It is good for anti-viral
anti-bacterial purposes.
I have successfully stopped diarrhea by drinking a tea made from the twigs of an oak tree. Pieces of oak bark have been chewed to stop a toothache. The quercin in the bark is said to strengthen capillaries, and tannic acid is anti-viral and anti-bacterial.
