Lotta folks enjoy spending their leisurely time on meticulously manicured lawns .... the yards look nice but ya can't do a damn thing with it. I have all kinds of stuff growing in my "yard" and haven't a clue as to what most of it is but I do know what Plantain is http://www.altnature.com/gallery/plantain.htm if you happen to get bit by a spider such as the Brown Recluse or Black Widow, pull a leaf or two, chew it into a mulch and apply it to the bite, apply dressing to hold the mulch in place .... you're as good as new. Plantain can also be eaten like a salad or just a few plain ole leaves while your doctoring yourself up.
ETA .... as with any plant make sure to identify with absolute certainty. And if you have a dog running loose in the yard ya might oughta consider rinsing the leaves before ya begin chompin on them.
