  • Edible, Medicinal, and Useful plant class...

In West Michigan- right between Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids...
Anyone interested? I will do a plant preparations course later...
10% discount for Survival Magazine Forum members!:)

    Useful Plant Hike
    10 am until 3 pm
    Saturday, June 4th
    $50

This class will meet at the Mustard Seed in Shelbyville Michigan, and then caravan to several near-by areas to study several environments. We will learn the useful plants of those areas - those that are food, fiber, medicine, poison, or in other ways utilitarian. We will make a meal in the woods using plants we have harvested. Ethical and safety concerns will be addressed, as well as resources one may use for further study. This is a great way to begin to appreciate the natural world in a new way. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a water bottle!

I would really like to seeing it's an area I need to work on, but the U.P. would be alot easier for me to make. Do you offer anything up there by chance?

Well that went well! We had 10 students come out, and we found all sorts of good stuff. We caught a soft shelled turtle, but he was turned loose...
We made raspberry leaf tea, shish kabobs of beef and garlic mustard, and a stir-fry of milkweed buds, stinging nettles, dandelions, briar shoots, and a ramp (wild Leek). We found watercress, ground nuts, hog peanuts, wild carrot, burdock, arrow head, cattails, sorrell, yarrow, and many other medicinal and food plants. We found basswood and dog bane for cordage, and many other plants that had a wide variety of utility. It was a good time!

I'm glad to hear all went well. I'd say 10 people is a pretty good showing now days. We will be in touch sooner or later.
