  • Mulberrys are ripening now

The mulberrys in my area are starting to ripen now. This little known berry tastes like a strawberry/blackberry mix. Good to eat or make jam/jelly. Easy to harvest. Ripe berries fall off the tree just by shaking limbs. Put a sheet on ground under tree, shake and collect. Good to get to know, might save your a-- sometime.Click image for larger version

It "looks" like a mix too, I will have to see if we have those in our area, but even if we do ours will be behind yours that's for sure.

    Thank You for sharing!

The darker they are, the sweeter they are. You can pick the red ones that are almost ripe and let them set overnight and they will turn dark and sweet. Best thing, NO SEEDS!!
P.S. We don't eat the stem, they are a little bitter. We hold the stem and eat the berries from around it.

        Mmmm yes they are.
Mull berries remind me of being a kid. we used to have a lot of those trees in our yard.
        A good tree to have.

They are a LONG way from being ripe here- the leaves are just about full size now.

They aren't ready yet here but by next week we'll be all over them. The girls and I always make a day of it. Great for pies but they never last long enough for jam. My little one also likes tea made from them.
