Used a typical old fashioned tree fork sling shot with inter-tube "stretchers" and scrap leather rock holders back when I was a kid. Most of us were middling and a few were really good. Best ammo for me was a smooth rock about 3/4 inch. Consistency is ammo was the key to being good. Spent more time hunting for ammo than shooting when were having a "shoot out" arranged by the adults to keep us out of mischief.
The new ones seem they would be deadly for targets larger than squirrels and rabbits, that plus certain birds were our permitted targets along with tin cans and bottles.

Slingshots can be just as accurate as a hand gun in the right hands and with a little practice here's a shot on a carpenter bee

I really like .25 inch steelies (ball bearings) for slingshot ammo but hated the price at Wally World and other sporting goods shops until I found them on sale at OnLine Metals, where I can get a bag of 250 balls for $2.58. https://www.onlinemetals.com/merchan...21&top_cat=197 They also have other sizes and other metals. Just an FYI.
PS - In a TEOTWAWKI large amounts of steel balls could be very helpful.
