  • Hand gun hunting.

Does anybody else hunt with a handgun? I hunt whitetail deer with a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter. The supper Blackhawk is 44 mag with a 7.5 barrel and it is in stainless steel. I have had a trigger job done and night sights added along with a custom grip and hammer. I love this gun because it is lighter then my shotguns or rifles so I can walk all day long without the weight kicking my butt. I run it with open sights because I want it to be as fast as possible acquiring a target and in the swamps and ridges that I hunt I will not get a shot past 60 yards. I also have a Ruger MKII government target in stainless steel that I use for small game. I run this gun with open sights also making it clean and fast.

Did a little varmint hunting with a Dan Wesson many years ago, I found it enjoyable.

Many racoons, and other varments have met their fate with my Ruger MKIII. I would love to take a deer with my Super Blackhawk. Just never got around to it.

lol.. I want to add, the above post is written by the Mr. See, we both share this page, and although, most posts have been made by the Mrs, (me), except some knife and fishing ones, the above was not one of them! We will start specifying more with Mr./Mrs. as not to confuse...As for that darn Super Blackhawk of his, that baby scares me! First and last time I fired it, my thumb (so I got big hands) got in the way, and bout took the knuckle with the hammer! I wanted to cry, that puppy hurt so bad.. So, if you wussy posts like that, and "heavy packs", and bitchin and stuff... well its probably me, the Mrs... :)

I use my Super Black Hawk 44 mag also for deer. I'm currently using .300 grain bullets that a friend loads for me.

Yes... I also have a 223 and 22-250. The kick is about the same as a 44 mag.

Same gun but with a new set of Pachmayr grips.

Man I love it- I use a S&W 29 for deer and hogs, a Buckmark .22 for small game, and a S&W 19 for targets of opportunity.

My buddy in Alaska just popped a monster brown bear with a .454. The biologist who checked the bear estimated him at 20 years old and recorded the skull at 28 5/16". I do think I would have used a rifle....
