  • Survival Fishing...

Check out the Yo Yo fishing reel. I bought a 12 pack from one of the BIG camping/hunting/fishing stores for $25. I keep 4 in my BOB that I have re-spooled with 40ft of 20lb test mono, on top of the pre-spooled nylon. (They come spooled with about 10ft of nylon backing and about 10ft of mono, but is not nearly enough in my opinion). I bought heavy duty clasps and pre-tied them on so a hook can just simply be added. I also used the clasps to attach 2ft of 550 cord to the pre-drilled hole for attaching to a tree or log. Will update with pics.

the yo yos are great. tie them to a tree, bait and go cut fire wood or build your shelter. and they keep the fish on the line and sometimes reel them all the way up to the tree. check your lines every hour or so, so critters dont get your grub

We used a stick and the internal strands of para chord last time we went out.
Not the best, but we caught a small mess of 'em.

I alwayss wondered about the yo yo reels. Im not sure if a trot line or a bank line wouldnt be better. With the trot line you have many hooks out there. Let us know. Mr. Maric

I think Id rather build a couple of Dam traps and basket traps to back up reel fishing. passive and active. and the benefit to Dam traps are you dont have to pull out and eat the fish you catch right away. you can just pull them out one or two at a time. assuming you catch any of course LOL.

This has been a plan of mine for awhile thouhg not yet implemented.. fish traps are a far superior, efficient work you 24/7 setup

Just trying to figure out the best way, lightest way to setup a rig

Welding on a pipe that's in the water has the same effect.
