When I was about 15, I kept a tarantula that did the same thing. My mother wouldn't go into my room since it was in a terrarium on my dresser. If I'd known it would have that affect, I'd have collected one on purpose many years before!
Most of the lizards around here are protected by law, don't EVEN get caught with a horned toad, you'll do more time than some people who kill their children.

these things were all over when I was stationed in Fallon Nevada had one climb into my gear bag and didn't come out until I was at the house it was something to see how fast they are and how well they evaded my kids she finally caught it though and safely released it back in the wild after much begging to keep it as a pet
