I like that and I get the point...

If you're not prepared say a person that goes on a hike in the desert with 3 swallows of water in a bottle, they are going to find themselves in survival mode pretty quick

Where as the prepared person with a pack, gear etc is just that, prepared.

Sourdough... not totally sure what your reading into there. but his statement has validity, would you rather find yourself in the middle of no where with a marble and a Chiclet in your pocket or with a BOB on your back?!? I don't think it had anything to do with EDC but rather to compare the typical sheep walking around unprepared for anything vs being aware and prepared to any level.

Also, as I recall Sekelbos lives over across the pound somewhere in North Africa(??) where there are plenty of things that are also willing to eat you and poop you out.

However that is "NOT" a known fact at departure.

Therefore "survival" situations have zero to do with EDC or having a plush camp.

I don't think your statement is correct, or maybe accurate is a better choice of word, based on my personal experiences.

Your statement of "Just rough camping" implies there is a high probability of returning either alive or with most of your body parts.

If I am not out for at least 2 weeks with only 3-5 days of food, I don't even consider it "training". If I am out and have everything I need, it is just camping. I refuse to go "glamping" though. To hell with that.

Nice post............I have done a lot of survival camping. It was never fun, or educational. Just terrifying.

started a topic 'Survival' or merely minimalist camping?

    'Survival' or merely minimalist camping?

I sometimes get the feeling that some grown-up people that are not used to camping a lot try to make their trip out there more dramatical by calling it 'survival' for their blog or youtube channel.
It is a word that grab the imagination, but really, if you ever were in such a situation--it's no joke!
I blame false media and TV shows for this huge misconception.
    [Or egos?]

Even sleeping outside in nature for a night or two in a self made debris shelter are most of the times merely minimalist camping and still not 'survival'!
We all like to go out there and practice our 'survival' skills, [me too] but then it is training and not real survival.

I wish we could just not mislead some inexperienced or younger outdoor enthusiasts by letting them believe to camp out in a 'primitive' way equals real 'survival'.
We have to encourage 'primitive' or minimalistic camping though ,as it definitely can prepare you for one day in the unlikely event you do find yourself in a real survival situation.
Let us not get too carried away by this multi-million dollar 'survival' business and media 'survival' hype and continue to enjoy our camping [in whichever way] to the full.

Even on a Boys Scout etc youngster camp some of these young and enthusiastic lads crude overnight shelters are merely supervised camping, though to boost their self confidence we sometimes tell them 'wow, you survived' etc--but that is altogether a different matter !
