I live near Charlotte NC. Does anyone know of any good camping spots around here. Im not talking about small designated spots like a camp spot rental. Im talking about a nice place to go camping. I have found a good place in Albemarle NC called Cooks Marina. You can search that in google and it pops up Cooks Marina Lake Tillery. It is a pretty decent place. I found a good place in Gaffney SC, but a lot of people that hang out there seem to be trouble. Most will say that they will camp out in any woods, but I dont want to step on any feet and make people mad by using their land. Normally you have to know someone.

Straight up 321 north (Exit 17 on I-85) to the Blue Ridge Parkway and then go south on the Parkway. Its between an hour and a half to 2 and is really worthwhile! There are established camp sites all along the parkway like Julian Price Park and others that cost a few bucks to camp at. Or, If you want to get a bit more out there in the wild, you can hit the Linville Gorge wilderness area and there is free camping off the side of the dirt rd. that runs along the ridge of the Gorge and you can also backpack all in the Gorge which I HIGHLY recommend! Its so beautiful out there! If you want to backpack out there you do need to call ahead to the ranger station a couple of weeks in advance and get a permit. Its free. The number is: 828-652-4841. They use the permit system to limit the amount of people out there at any given time so that impact on the land is kept to a minimum, and also to keep track of who is in the Gorge in the event of an emergency. Table Rock is another good place to camp and its free as well. There are a lot of rock climbers out there when its warm though so its kinda hit or miss with it being crowded some of the time.
Anyways, here are a couple links that'll help you out:

PrkChp76, saving $100 to drive 4 hours to get a kayak doesnt make sence. I have been checking on them here and people just want too much for them. Might as well get a new one for just a few bucks more, or if a sale ocurrs, Ill save by getting a new one.
MasterMynd, thank you. That is the info I was looking for. I cant walk due to surgery right now, but cant wait to get out there and have a good time.
