Been seriously looking at Idaho for relocation. Not sure where the best area would be though. Not really thrilled with the idea of being around Redneck Couch militias. So that pretty much leaves out the far North and SE. I want a balance of temperatures throughout the year rather than real hot and deep freeze. Any suggestions?

I was going to suggest Arkansas, as there is land at a fair price and low property taxes, but since you don't like us,"REDNECK COUCH MILITIAS", I wouldn't want to offend your senseibilities!

lol I am from the south myself. I am sure you know who I am referring to. And they are the last people you wanna be around. Guys like us want to take care of our families. They want to shoot em' up. Anyhow I am open to just about anything. I don't think the world is going to end or that Planet X is coming by in 2012. I am looking to be clear of things like Nuclear power plants and cities that sit below sea level 'cough'.

Well Idaho is good for those extremes that you want to want to avoid. Look at northern Arizona or northern New Mexico they have pretty balanced years and will get you out of the south. But whereever you go there will be extremes from temp, rain something so just pick the one you can deal with the best and go with that one.

If your going you need to be gettin .... the chill is coming. We've recently experienced the heat the southern hemisphere suffered while we wintered .... Some parts of the Amazon river are filled with hundreds of thousands of dead fish, crocks, dolphins and turtles from the extreme cold .... we'll be gettin some of what they got. Have a safe journey.

Good question OW. I am still trying to figure out how the south came into it lol. Unless I have my map turned upside down and got confused ;).

And I am with you on the heat. Man it has been the worst summer I have ever seen. Over 95 degrees and 86% HD for 60 straight days. Even in the winter it is never really cold. That's what I can't take anymore. I need some seasons.

In the context of the present topic .... weather. I personally would not want to be relocating during a period when there is potential to encounter extreme weather ie. blizards. It iis my understanding that winter comes early and is fairly harsh in the Idaho region. If the move is to an established residence perhaps there is no cause for concern. Here at my home I have my firewood split and stacked, my garden is cleared and tilled. If I relocated to points north I'm not certain that I would have time to accomplish these things prior to winter arriving. Given our present social situation I can't permit myself to be non-self sustaining ....

Seriously, all the redneck slams aside, you might look around the McCall area (about 2 hours from Boise), or anything along Hwy 55 and Hwy 21 (which branches off east of Hwy 55). That's all in the Sawtooth Mountains. I've been through there about 7 years ago and it's pretty nice (and secluded) country. But once you get close to say Stanley (on Hwy 21), the property prices dramatically increase (ya know, Ketchum (where Hemingway lived) & Sun Valley). Last time I was lookin (which was several months ago) I noticed a lot of well-priced and beautiful land (I'm talkin land with a river running through it with mountains as a back drop) around Elk City (which I haven't actually been there), but that's a helluva lot farther north than you're talking about. As for the people there, I thought everyone in Idaho was exceptionally nice, and I really liked em (with the exception of southeast Idaho which is heavily Mormon).
