  • I have relocated to the Washington DC area. GULP

God help me. After being unemployed for over 13 months, i was able to get back on with the company i worked for before in Washington State, but this time around it is in Annapolis Junction and Arlington Virginia. I feel like a fish out of water here and don't know anyone. I left my family back in Washington State and have no support crew here. I am hate to say it, but DEPRESSED as never before. Instead of feeling like the person who wanted to survive at all costs, now I just feel like rolling over and dying instead. Traffic, crime, I should have known better. Due to start work next week, but am second guessing everything now.

Is there anyone around this area that can help me see the light. ANY light will do.

    Thanks.

I work for an engineering firm and at this time am working 560 miles from home. I have a wife and children that I miss very much. It is very hard at times especially since we do not work weekends and I am stuck here in a hotelroom all alone. One thing that helps me to see things in a better perspective is to think about our Sons and Daughters in Iraq and Afghanistan. If I chose I could be home in a few hours where as our soldiers overseas are there for a longtime away from their loved ones risking there lives so we can work for a living and take care of our families. There is always someone worse off than we are. Another that helps is to continue as much as possible with your hobbies and pastimes. Whatever you did in your spare time at home continue to do in your new location as much as your situation allows or find a new hobby.

Keep a good attitude and Good Luck!

      HileTroy;
So how are you making it in our fine capitol of D.C. Hope everything is going well or at least tolerable. Put up some posts and keep active.

I ran across this song after reading your post. Hang in there bud.

Be the light of my lantern, the light of my lantern, be the light
Be the light of my lantern, the light of my lantern tonight
Be the light of my lantern, the light of my lantern, be the light
I need light in my lantern, light in my lantern tonight

It's a hungry world out there
Even the wind will take a bite
I can feel the world circling
Sniffing round me in the night
And the lost sheep grow teeth
Forsake the lambs and lie with the lions

          And the living is desperate
          Precarious and mean
And getting by is so hard
That even the rocks are picked clean
And the bones of small contention
Are the only food the hungry find

I need light for my lantern, light for my lantern tonight
light in my lanter, light in my lantern tonight

Where the thistles eat the thorns
And the roses have no chance
A'int no wonder that the babies
          Come out crying in advance
And the children look for shelter
In the hollow of some lonesome cheek

And the sky's so cold and clear
The stars might stick you where you stand
And you're only glad its dark cause
You might see the master's hand
And you might cast around forever
And never find the peace that you seek

I need light for my lantern, light for my lantern tonight
be the light in my lanter, light in my lantern tonight

For every cry in the night
          Somebody says, Have faith!
          Be content inside your questions
          Minotaurs inside a maze
Tell me what's the point of light
that you have to strike a match to find?

          So throw away those lamentations
We both know them all too well
If there's a book of jubilations
We'll have to write it for ourselves
So come and lie beside me darling
And let's write it while we still got time

So if you got a light, hold it high for me
I need it bad tonight, hold it high for me
Cause I'm face to face, hold it high for me
In that lonesome place, hold it high for me
With all the hurt that I've done, hold it high for me
That can't be undone, hold it high for me
Light and guide me through, hold it high for me
I'll do the same for you, hold it high for me

I'll hold it high for you, cause I know you've got
I'll hold it high for you, your own valley to walk
I'll hold it high for you, though it's dark as death
I'll hold it high for you, and then gets darker yet
I'll hold it high for you, though your path seems lost
I'll hold it high for you, through the thieves and rocks
I'll hold it high for you, keep you safe from harm
I'll hold it high for you, until you're back in my arms

Be the light of my lantern, the light of my lantern tonight
Be the light of my lantern, the light of my lantern, be the light

What a beautiful song! He's not posted since this post. I'm officially worried about him. :(

I know, I know, but I'm a Mom, I'm allowed (and expected) to worry!

Thanks everyone. I am trying to use my noodle now and adapt best I can. Still not used to the city ghetto feeling i get here, but know that I cannot just hide my head in the never ending concrete and live this way. Need to replace my 'helpless' feeling and get back to the mindset I had in the State out West. I find that if I can just get out of dodge every chance I get, I feel much better. Been spending weekends in upstate NY where I can breath and relax. It has re-awakened me to my survival instincts.

I also need to get back on this site more. I was thinking if the SHTF, there was no way I could get out of D.C. But I will be prepared the best I can to stay alive.

              Thanks again.

Are you near the Potomac river .... or any river for that matter? Make your way south by river .... north/south by rail .... or west to the Appalachians by any means. Try to find shooting events or any sort of wilderness activity gatherings outside the district .... search / advertise Craigslist. Depression can be a tough condition to work through by yourself ....

                      DC?

Hang in there prepper. I live about 90 miles WNW of DC. If I were there I'd have a scanner. So much activity you would always have something interesting to listen to.

                      Good luck.

We used to live in that area...Alexandria to be exact. We still have to adult kids down there. They have bug out plans. There are plenty of preppers down there too...as you get farther from the city, you can find gun clubs, HAM clubs and all sorts of interesting things..good luck!

My kids live in the Odenton, MD. area...near FT. Meade. Both former Army...I worry for them also, but at least they've got training and my son in law is from Montana.
You can now legally own a gun in DC, but that's a city full of corrupt politicians and gangs and spies from all over the world i'd guess.

Traffic is gonna be bad all over when the SHTF. Having a cart handy to pull might be an idea.

                          take care.
