Never said this was happening.. we were putting out the feelers and seeing what was involved with the logistics, safety, costs etc. It's not going to happen this year. We want to but there's alot involved including sponsors, insurance etc

After reading through the entire 10 page thread I still find no firm location or directions or final cost mentioned.

    Did I miss that post?

It is only a month till Labor Day! Many of the people that wish to attend will soon have to change plans due to time constraints.

I have organized events of this nature in Mid-TN several times and can assure you that it takes more then a month to get everything tagged down if you do not own your own property. Firewood, water, port-o-lets, medical facilities.....

Would love to attend. Just one question, my PA carry permit doesn't allow for travel outside the state, so is it legal to tranport my firearms to another state?

My youngest is @ a University too, but I would be willing to come, just for the experience. I'm going to ask around & see if others want to come to share the expense. Yeah, New Hampshire is a ways from Tn. I have been retired for over 3 yrs. now, & money is tight, but I couldn't miss that event, especially in middle Tn.

Sounds good to me! Are you going to have sponsors for this big event? I'd be willing to come during that time, especially in middle Tn. Just hiked the South Cumberland/Savage Gulf area, loved it.

This is a great idea. I would pay $25 to $45 dollars per ticket (ticket allowing entrance for the 2 or 3 days). I would love to see more rustic events like knife forging, food storage, seed saving, and basic trapping and game harvesting. Labor day is nice but being in West Tn I know that day can be cold and raining alot. Maybe a weekend more in September or even the end or August.

    The Survival Magazine Rendezvous

Some of the comments here brought to mind a format that I think would be ideally suited for this type of event...in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois there is an historic site at the partially reconstructed Fort de Chartres.

Every year they have a campout event they call The Rendezvous. Aside from the historical reenactments and displays of pioneer lifestyle accurate down to clothing and wilderness survival, many people participate by camping out for a week in a primitive pioneer style.

If not an official sponsor, survival magazine could surely interest the managers of that event to prequel or sequel it with a survivalist campout event. Working kind of like a scouting jamboree, it could feature classes in everything from shelter building, fire building, food and water collecting and preparation, to handmade weapons such as bows and spears.

If you follow links from their website (google "The Annual Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres", since I can't post a link yet), I am quite sure they would be interested in talking to you!

This would be a commercial event, so look around the next time you are at the mall, concert, school game, or large open event. People interact all the time without incident, but there are exceptions, and those are the reasons for security.

Wisconsin's gun deer season brings almost half a million people into the northwoods with guns, ammo, and alcohol every year. They go to restaurants, bars, and yes strip clubs, in their blaze orange and open carry weapons without having gunfights and shootouts.

I suspect the community of people interested in a preppers conference are like minded towards firearms safety and would be a very watchful crowd. Sloppy and unsafe gun handling would be addressed quickly by anyone around. But signage and announcements are also needed to keep everyone on their toes.

It is the same atmosphere at the Oshkosh airshow. The 250,000 people attending are into airplanes and therefore mindful of the dangers regarding fuel, debris, expensive equipment, and private property. It is one of the cleanest events you could attend.

This can happen and be a great resource for people. Do something this year and learn from it. Partner with a local gun club or veterans group along with a campground and go for it.

I see no problem with concealed carry or even open carry as long as you are legal. Long guns should be in locked cases when not in use on the range.

If the decision to not allow people to carry a sidearm is made then I don't think I will participate. I go nowhere unarmed if at all legaly possible. This is why I don't go to the mall, city parks, or any establishment that does not allow me to carry. The criminal types still carry into these establishments leaving the law abiding unprotected. Remember when seconds count the police are only minuets away.

I agree with you. I carry concealed 90% of the time, but there r time that it is too hot to wear a T-shirt then another shirt over that to conceal the weapon. Yes, a shirt will cover a hip weapon but u can still c that someone is carrying.

As far a open carry at the SurvivalCon,we, wife & me say no also. yes to carry concealed, my 2cents was that we b allowed to carry at the function. But any and all the rules must be followed to have a safe and good time by all.

    Just our thoughts.

I'm all for 75-100 range and as for the firearms, I think there should be control, like turning them into the range or something like that.

Diesel : Like I said I would abide by all rules set forth by the planners. I was just just wanted to put my 2cents in for the option to carry. Safety first. No problem here. Sorry if I struck a nerve.
