Too bad we couldn't have some based on a regional set-up under this forum. It would make it more practical. I would like to come, but that's a little too far.

    Great idea though!

It sounds like an awesome idea. Labor Day would be better for me because it is already a 3 day weekend and to drive out there I would still have to take time off of work. $75 would be a good price if you can swing it. It would cost me about $400 in gas to get there and back. Guns is a must, what survivalist is going to leave home without one? I wouldn't be opposed to not using my gun for safety reasons if necessary but, I would be bringing one (at least). Gun safety is very important of course, though. I certainly wouldn't suggest people leaving there guns laying around where kids can get them. Guns aside, I am all for kids going, I think it would be good for them too.

Getting kids involved is a good idea. I wish more and more kids would get involved in healthy skills rather then playing video games and watching T.V..

Hi. This is my first post, but I thought it would be important to chime in about the event. I think it's a great idea! I would suggest that guns are a bad idea for anyone who doesn't have a carry permit due to the safety and liability issues. As for a cost, I would suggest a very low (barely break even) price for camping/entry to make the event accessible to as many as possible, then have premium content (food stalls, educational seminars, equipment sales, etc) to add revenue to support future efforts. I hope this helps!

I would come and probably bring at least 3 people with me. I think you could have this one kid-friendly and get a mailing list for a gun event. That's just a thought. Since this is the first one- not having firearms would make the insurance cheaper and allow it to grow. You won't have to lay out so much cash to do it. I could help you with this I have some experience with event planning. If you need help let me know. I think everyone could benefit from learning about native edible plants, food storage, survival first aid, what to pack in a survival bag, water purification techniques...etc. to make the weekend worth it. ORRRRR- you could do a gun day the day before or after the main event and people could choose to come for that day or not but everyone with kids would not be excluded- that might work too.

I know of a place you could do it on 100 acres in Spring Hill. People would have to camp. If you had 50 total and limited it to that, you could do it at my place. Again- campers only. I think if you pick a date and have a place, the people will come to teach and share and you will be shocked at how many would come on word of mouth who aren't on this forum. We have talked about doing a one day workshop somewhere and I think more people want this than you realize. I'm happy to help you and I bet some others are too. It's a good idea.

I don't believe we can get this done on a large scale this year.. just too complex and too many kinks. But we may consider a small event as a Test run and limit the # of participants.. Appreciate the offers Holly, might talk to you about it.

The best thing you can do to support the site is pass it on to your friends and fav sites like other forums, facebook, twitter etc. Let people know about us! :)

Survivalcon is a catchy name, but seems to me to have a bit of a frantic, militaristic tone. Have you considered calling it something with the word "Preparedness" instead? It means the same thing in my mind, but seems much less open to misinterpretation or pigeonholing. Just a suggestion. How about Prep Gathering, or Preparedness Jamboree. Something less likely to portray a bunch of paranoid doomsdayers who left their bunkers to attend (No offense if you are a paranoid doomsdayer in a bunker, I actually hope to have a bunker someday myself...)

You could offer a web version for those who couldn't afford to travel. I think if you do it and set a date, you will have at least 50. You would be shocked because you will get more if you advertise in the right places. It could be the beginning of a very cool thing. People need to network and link up. We would be so much more powerful if we have some semblance of organization - there are more of us out there than we know...it's just that our kind aren't just hanging around socially so we have to find places to meet our kind of people. Just something to think about. This information is important. I don't know if the Mayans were right, but if they were, this is the last opportunity you'll have to do it. hahahaha (bad joke, sorry...but it IS funny to think about...)

well i just got in on this conversation. i can say i would definatly like to be there & i'm in middle tn. so it won't be much of a trip. i'm also an E.M.T.-IV/paramedic intern so i would be willing to help staff this. provided a solid date was set so i could plan work & school around the event. if everybody is serious 1 of the planners can grab this & keep me updated.

I'd love to go to something like this, I have a week of vacation to burn during the fall so time off shouldnt be a problem. I havent gone camping yet this year anyways!! I definitly would prefer to have something where firearms would be allowed, I can understand the whole liablilty thing, but at minimum maybe use a local range that could even be rented out to our group privately or something for unlimited range time. I definitly need more shooting time and practice as the ranges around me arent the best and also expensive, and i rarely can get out to them.

I'm in W. Tenn and yes I'd a prospect for your survival con. My son's and I are preppers. I'd love to get my wife into a more proactive state of mind. Some times she thinks I'm a freak. But one day we may be able to hop over to Target or Walmart. I'm new to the site. Always been leary of leaving an electronic trail. but now think we need to network.
You don't have to be perfect, but you better be smart!!!
