We are considering putting on and sponsoring a SurvivalCon or Survival Conference

Right now this is what we are thinking

    To be held annually

Possible Date would be the 3 days of Labor Day Weekend

    Possible Location: Middle TN

    Concept:

    Tent / RV Camping Event

A gathering to help like minded people meet and make friends.

A gathering to let experts help teach people about their crafts

    Demonstrations

Survival related tv show & movie viewings

    Good food

    Possible Survival related vendors

    Fun

    Good food (again)

This would be a large event, that would require ALOT of planning, logistics, EMT's, Portapottys, Large Tents for gatherings and sponsors etc

Looking for feedback on how many people would be interested in attending, does that weekend sound good? It should start cooling down a little by Labord Day weekend?

What would you be willing to pay for 3 days of food, camping, fun & education

What would you like to see or experience at this event?

How many of your friends and family do you think would be in for something like this?

    etc etc!

    Let the discussion begin!! :)

I'm game for that. Labor day is still pretty warm here in SOLA, but here is a link on temperature spread in TN. I'd say Oct/Nov looks better. As far as what I'd pay, it would depend on what was offered. How would you plan to handle presentations and the like? Would it be a site with buildings for group activities?

Would LOVE to make it October, but didn't think people would be able to get away for 3 days without a 3 day weekend

I could likely swing it.. The cost would have to be less than 200 bucks to be affordable for me.. Gas alone will eat me alive...

oh no it wouldn't be anything like that cost wise.. but I don't know yet it would depends on expenses putting it together and how many people would be there.

now gas getting there is a diff story lol

sound like a great idea give who ever a cookie.
we here in ky called them turkey shoots. have a rifle range or something like that.where prizes could be won.
you got to think to that there will be little on so entertanment for them ive got a six year old daughter.
Food how about a buffey of some sort. cost a camp site with elec and water at a state park is about 12 to 20 bucks a day so go from there so 75dollars for three days sounds far without the food hay you could have a cover charge for the buffet after they get there and an other actives to. theres my 2 cent

Price really depends on how many people, andhow much land we need, and what we are providing but I was thinking $75-$100 depending.

                I don't know if we are talking 50 people, 150, 500 or 1000

Let me ask you guys this, How do you feel about 3 days in October since the weather will be a little cooler and nicer to deal with, as opposed to the 3 day weekend of Labor day, would you be able to take a day off sick day etc to pull something like that off?

Also the 2 BIG pending issues to be discussed are

                1. Firearms - Think liability, kids, families and people doing stupid stuff

                2. Kids, all ages, none? Kids running around getting in people's stuff or being in unsafe situations like near fires, equipment, knives, possible firearms..

                Your thoughts please

An October time would work for us, although traveling from Michigan would require two days vac time for me. Absolutely love the idea and would plan to come. Much depends on fuel prices, and entrance fee ($75 for the weekend sounds reasonable).

Firearms definitely a concern with kids (although don't we preppers take pride in educating our kids about guns?) If kids were excluded, that may deter some folks from attending but doesn't matter to me either way.

                  The whole idea excites me!

yeah that's the catch 22 here, we want families etc, and pride ourselves in gun education but a large event is not really the place for guns or kids or both.. Open to ideas for sure. But think about it from an event and business standpoint BIG liability there.. so gotta check on this stuff

hey i realy think it ought to be a family thing as for the gun thing you could have one person there to demonstrait gun safety and only they have the guns this way green horns can learn too.
have wooden guns for kids and show them how to safely handle a gun. yeah the gun and kids make me nerves. you could also have venders there to help with the cost of putting this thing on
each vender pay a small fee for setting up there. its just an idea.
