Cheap Boat to Build

I dont know if this is the right place to put this or not. I just finished building a little boat called a Puddle Duck Racer. I have a big boat but I wanted to experiment with a quick and cheap to build boat that would work in a pinch for fishing and getting across bodies of water. This little boat went together very quickly with just materials from Home Depot. It can be sailed or paddled and can even handle a little kicker on the stern. My wife sewed up the sail from an old surplus parachute for it but some people make a sail from a blue tarp. Here is a link to the free plans for it.

We are going to take it out and launch it tomorrow and put it through its paces. I will report back on whether we built a boat or submarine. If you dont hear back from me then you have your answer.

A bit more complex, but I have plans stored under lock and key (wife has the key) for a SkiffAmerica, and a small Hydroplane racer, but the wife said that I have to sell at least one of my current boats before I even THINK about building one.
One of these days I'm gonna build that SkiffAmerica...and solo the Great Loop!

That is one ugly boat! Just kidding. I have rough cut cypress boards that my grandfather bought in the 1920's for a boat. They have been passed down thru the family ever since.

I got it and have acted upon it. Thanks. I built a bateau once our of some cypress boards. If you are interested I can give you some details on how to do it. They are pretty fast and easy also and are great for paddling and poling. We are loaded up and heading to the water as soon as my wife finishes sewing up the sail. She is having fun trying to turn an old surplus parachute into a sail.

Well I made it back from the testing of my new little boat Booger. She performed great. Sailed really well. Is easy to row and can haul a ton of gear. Best of all she cost me a bit over 200 dollars to build. It is a cheap and fast way to get out on the water. All in all the Puddle Duck Racer design is not much to look at but she is definitely a lot of boat for the money and time invested.
