If it is not a daily driver you can park it in a grounded metal shed or ground the chassis with a cable and rod driven 2-3 feet into the ground. The effect of EMP varies greatly depending on distance, altitude, magnitude and the type of weapon used. Spare electronics can be stored in grounded metal cans. There is a bunch of info on the net on this subject.

Depending on how close you were to an emp, you would probably have to change the starter. But if you were that close to an emp blast, it's probably to late for you anyway. Blazers are great trucks, they do have a couple weak spots in the steering and suspension, but that can be fixed for a few bucks. Also, my '75 blazer with 33" BFG mudders on it got 17 mpg. You just need a little mechanical know how to get the juice out of it.

i thought as long as the vehicle was not running that a emp wouldn't hurt it

That's if you can find a Blazer that old that's still solid enough that your gear won't fall out the rust holes. I've owned a couple, I know... 1974 and up had electronic ignition. The down side is mpg's. 10-12 mpg is average. I still like those trucks though.

In the event of an EMP event, how far back would I have to go to get one without all of the electronic stuff that would fry from the EMP? Late 60's? early 70's?
I have to admit that I'm not as up on all of the EMP stuff as a lot of folks.
Most vehicles prior to 1984 did not have electronic fuel injection, most did however, have electronic ignition at that point. I don't know if voltage regulators, coils etc. would be affected by an EMP...
Any of the old cars with carburetors should be ok... you could always buy and
bury some of the electronic components that you think might be affected.

You could always go back to cars with rotors and points.
you should be able to do a few a google searches and come up with the answer on that.
