  • Bug out vehicle

I am currently working on finishing my bug out / camping vahicle. It is not a motorhome with all the failure prone systems, simply an industrial type aluminum vehicle with equipment stored inside.

The engine is diesel 4 cylinder and it gets decent gas mileage. Fuel tank is 38 gallons and I keep another 30 gallons stored with it, should be enough for over 1000 mile range. i also keep gasoline with it, since i keep 2 generators with it to power my tools. it also has 2 house batteries, about 400 amp hours of storage (you don't want to lift these suckers) and a few small solar panels to keep them charged, in addition to the starting battery.

I haven't finished with it yet, I am working on insulating it and considering adding something that adds bullet resistance, I've looked at steel, but 1/4 ballistic plate would add 2500 pounds and kill gas mileage, so i am leaning towards high density polyethylene, at around only 500 pounds, but i'm not sure if it is worth it. I have run flat tires also, but haven't got them installed as of this moment.

This is not mine, a generic picture from an auction, but they all look the same. other than small windows I have added and the air conditioner on the back of mine

This is mine. 30 mpg tool box full of "stuff", and a manual transmission with a decent radio.

I've never seen a Ford that would get 30mpg.....I guess this is a first. Just kidding with you Rusty. But it does look at home in front of a drilling rig! By the way, why is kerosene so much higher than diesel? There shouldn't be any more taxes on it. I bought some for parts wash a few weeks ago and it was $3.55 a gallon.

I have thought about one of those box trucks as a camper. You''l have some roof space for gear or solar panels too.

I do have plans for more solar, around 600 watts as well as storage on top, I am also fitting underbody toolboxes down the sides.

i plan to put some tanks for water storage in the underbody, long and slender so as to fit between the frame rails beside the drive shaft. Eventually the same with propane too. I don't plan on having holding tanks or such for wastewater, but currently have a potta potty stored in it.

This summer i plan to replace the rear doors with a fold down ramp, and get a small scooter to keep inside as well.

These are sweet!...especially the diesel. I have a customer that buys these at lease end and converts them to mobile shops or campers.

Man...that's a sweet truck! If I jacked my 5.4 F250 up like that it probably wouldn't do the speed limit.
My dad has a 250 with a V10 that I might buy cheap...he went in with a shade-tree dealer on it to pick up a few bucks in the auction circuit and the dealer stuck him with it.

You leave that in the driveway and NO ONE will be able to get to me. When you and the lady moving up here?
