Anyone Own other X Mil Vehicles?

I had a deuce, got rid of it eventually though just wasn't practical. I'd consider an A3 maybe though, or a diff vehicle. They are all fun and cool to have but when it comes down to it not all that practical

After all these ideas and dreams and owners comments, have you decided what you want or what you will get?

I'd offer one bit of advice, that's been hinted at in some of the replies. Get a BOV that works well in the terrain you intent to bug out to. If you are planning on driving to an old mine high in the rockies, a deuce may not be the best choice because the roads may be too narrow. If your plan is to haul lots of tonnage into the open plains of South Dakota, a deuce may be the right choice.

I'm still going with an electric jeep. It's small, easy to hide, gets into tight and rough places, easy to work on, cheap to buy, can recharge off a gasoline generator or off a wood-burning generator or off solar panels. Can't carry as much as a deuce by any means, but I'm hoping to bug in not out. If I do have to bug out, I have places to go where some of my shelter and security needs are already met. The trailer carries a compact 12Kw generator and a 30 gallon fuel tank and an air compressor, with room for other stuff.

The problem with the M35 is it is very hard to drive after an hour or two.
There is no real cushion in the cab or for that matter the suspension, which is very stiff.

I have wanted to look over one of the cut down BOB'ed M35's where they cut off the last set of wheels, truck bed, and drive train so all you end up with is a M-35 front end and a 4X4 drive with only 1 set of rear wheels.

As for the M-60 my wife has learned to drive it. First thing she did was drive it down a hill and took out 2 trees! She did scratch the paint a bit!!!!!! She just laughed about it. I was the one riding in the command seat hanging on for dear life. She had 63,000 pounds of steel around her for protection.

Note to self: when she drives stay away far away or inside by the gun mount.

I know that Coleman's military surplus in Millersburg PA. is always wheeling and dealing with used military vehicles, trailers, replacement parts the whole nine yards. The last flyer I got from them they were selling deuce and a half's, 6x6, multi-fuel with or without turbos priced at $2995-$4995 and 5 ton trucks priced at $8995- $10,995. Plus they have a whole warehouse full of parts for them.

I would love to own a A2 model, but I suffer from lack of funds an a place big enough to put it. Its still on my wish list though.

Here is one that I have been looking at. I make me summer "trips" and get an extra check by doing it. I had planned this year to use that money to get something like a Kaiser jeep. http://www.vintagemilitarytrucks.com...20Vin17011.htm

There is one for sale near me that has been turned into a mud buggy, but I would make it back into a daily driver.

there is also a deuce and a half near me that is a retired fire truck. They want $5000 for it, and it looks in great shape.

My SHTF Truck

My choice, after 2 years of research is my 1991 DODGE TRUCK W350 4WD PICKUP 5.9L 6-cyl Engine Turbo Diesel. I found it in Georgia. it was an old farm truck with 253000 miles. Replaced the fuel pump, injectors, retightened all bolts to factory spec and replaced all normal wear parts. I get 20mpg empty and 16+ full and pulling. No computer parts at all.

She will burn used motor oil (50/50 mix) diesel or kerosene.

There was the military vehicle cllecting association when I was a kid had a buddy buy me a years membership. Back when. Iknow you can keep most anything including tanks and armoured cars (much tougher to get them armed)There ar even cheaper Soviet tanks kicking about.
So there are ways to find manuals and parts for M35's.

Mechanical 7.3L in a 79 Bronco with D-60's, C6, Np205 case & 38.5's makes a fun ride. 31mpg's at 65mph with 3.50 gears too.

I am shopping now for a 78-81 Bronco. I get extra money each summer and this year I will use it to get my ride. I just traded with my son so he has a good truck for school. Gave him a medium duty Chevy on 33's and took his old ford escape. Talk about getting the short end of a deal! But he will be safer in the big truck. And it was my leverage with the misses to focus on my bronco this summer.
