  • Anyone Own other X Mil Vehicles?

I have been eyeing for awhile now M35A2's. They are Truly USEful vehicles. 6x6, and multifuel engines that will run virtually anything you put in the tank.

Anyone have experience with these? or Own any other mil vehicles?

    Example:

Govt. Liquidation site has a lot of these I think.. Is that where you are looking? I was looking at a few of the military trailers. Have you driven these before? Whats the story on them?

My only concern is more moving parts more to break. IE 6x6. I'm ignorant on these things though so my fears could be unfounded. I'm working on the spare Tahoe I have right now. Its 2wd so its an on road only vehicle but its another hauler to have in the convoy just in case. Probably will go with a simple brush guard and other small things. Suspension definitely needs to be updated though. Has needed that for a while.

Sorry - this is probably too off-topic...

I am all about redundancy via spares. I have never thought about a convoy like this... If you've spent much time thinking about "the convoy" would you be willing to share some of your ideas either here or in a new thread?

Nothing yet but still researching different year models, configurations, likelyhood of running when picked up at the base etc etc and how practical it is to own.

LOVE the 6x6 and LOVE the mutlifuel engine..

                will keep ya posted

Don't want to tinkle on your parade(I'm the biggest toy freak going), but keep both eyes open! Electrical system is 24 volt (not your average stock parts), but you can convert to 12 volt. Parts can be $$$$$. Have heard of trouble getting title with local DMV. One of the 4 wheel drive mags I get had a series of articles on purchasing and owning used mil vehicles (naturally, in my state of relocating those mags have hit the recycle bin). As a "toy" or dedicated prep vehicle, no problems, but ownership, driving, wrenching can be very frustrating. As always YMMV.

                  Enjoy and STAY SAFE

I would like something a little smaller. If budget wasn't an issue :D I would opt for a totally rebuilt 1960s era M715 Kaiser Jeep. Add in disk brakes, 12 volt electricals, multi-fuel diesel engine and possibly power steering. Keep the front PTO winch and add a rear electrical winch. Combine it to a half-ton trailer with a dana 30 axle with same wheels/tires as the truck for redundancy.

Then you have a heavy duty suspension 4x4 with a 30 gallon fuel tank (add extra Wade Jerry Cans in trailer) that can be fought from without the restriction of a cab. The windshield, canvas top and windows all fold down.

Further it was built with mounts for real pioneering style use including THREE spare wheel/tire mounts, two jerry can mounts, a mount for a heavy duty jack and a pick and shovel. Best of all it was designed to accept a weapons hardpoint for a .50 cal or M60 pintle mount. :D

All this can be had for $20k....or about half the price of a military HUMVEE but just as capable if not heavier duty.

a military jeep is in no way shape or form even remotely on the same planet as a hmmwv, hmmwv's are far more capable, ground clearance wise, approach and departure wise, and due to having 4 independant geared hubs, not to mention a host of other things.

                            Diesel & das

Each of the mentioned vehicles have different uses and configurations so comparison is not an issue. Mil jeeps (the old MB's etc.) can access tighter places than the humvee. The M715 is a heavy duty pick-up truck. All have their time and place. Personally, I would love to have either a 2 1/2 or a 5 ton truck for the reasons originally posted, but I really WANT a 5 or 10 ton wrecker. No, I don't have any current or forseen use for one but I just really want one. Don't know why, but they really get me.

yeah the wrecker is cool and has ALOT of uses even just in a start up town etc as a crane even, or pulling out stuck vehicles, overturned abonded vehicles etc etc

They are quite a bit more expensive than the deuces though unfortunately.
