  • Don't toss that rotten meat!!

My father taught me this trick when I was a kid. Make a box with wood and put some wide holed screen on the bottom. Suspend it over your favorite fishing hole and put in some rotten meat. The flies will flock to it, lay eggs, and the larvae (maggots) will fall through the screen on the bottom, providing a constant supply of food for fish. Makes for a great fishing hole, kind of like a deer feeder, only for fish.

HA! Brilliant! Definitely committing that one to memory.

        It does smell

But, you fish upwind of it!! It works very well on sloughs, and especially with trout and ling.

Had a buddy growing up who did this. He used roadkill. Drilled a zillion holes in a bucket bottom, and hung it in a Pine over the creek. Re-baited the bucket as needed. Fatest Brookies ya ever saw!

seems like it would attract possum and skunk, but will have to try down by the reddies river this summer, I have found a few pools this would work well in.

Please don't let this get out to Washington D.C. we will have every senator and rep. sitting on the river banks waiting for dinner. You are a man of free will ... yo may interpret this as you wish.

Road kill for fishing sounds like a good idea.
Have to look into the regs. to see if its legal here, I know chumming isn't legal and may be the same thing if worded so.
