Haven't seen this mentioned, but I think there are a ton of mundane everyday things that people tend to ignore in favor of very situational skills.

Building a solid, permanent shelter is extremely important. You can't live in a debris hut in the long term when you need to grow food and store it. Easiest thing I've learned is to dig a large hole in a fairly hard, strong soil (like clay), reinforcing it with wood beams that you can cut in any forest environment, and the covering the whole thing with a simple roof of logs and fired clay roof tiles that you can make yourself reasonably easily if you have enough time.

Being mostly underground really helps keep mosquitos out. Idk why that works but that's been my experience, and you can store root vegetables and apples in there for a long time without any spoilage.
