Found this beauty while looking at concrete homes. (its at the bottom of the floorplan page) Looks like its meant for coastal dwellers to ride out a hurricane in. My wife suggested that it could double as "mother in law quarters".
I dont see any reason why it couldnt be earth bermed.

Those are some pretty cool plans, very efficient and not costly at all!
I think that would make a good mother in law (or college kid) place. it says it's shelter for up to 12 people, but I wouldn't want to see more than 2 or 3 in it. I don't see why it couldn't be bermed, other than moisture...which you could take care of with proper drainage and some of that rubberized coating they put on basements.

I think 12 peeps is for a short duration event like a tornado.
I thought 9k was pricey but i guess not too bad if you compare it to a small camper, bearing in mind that the camper still needs much more to be windproof.
I went to a place that converted ocean containers into "hunters cabins"....the 8'x20' was $14000 and wouldnt pass as a "shelter" without more reinforcement(and securing to the ground)

On a coastal structure....Yes the basement would make a very nice mother in law residence. :rolleyes:

O.W. has a point but has not explained how one would vcollect on the life insurance, but perhaps I have said too much!
Seriously; I cannot load the web page; but I am going to assume that it is a dome structure Sprayed with ferro concrete? Those buildings can be built to withstand a bullet from a 30-06. I saw an article on one American Survival Guide decades ago. The dome and the pirimyd are the 2 most stable structures in high wind enviroment.

It is poured concrete, including the flat roof. The roof has a water supply tank and a generator. There is an escape hatch to the roof. The front door and small window have sliding steel shutters.
If you have been watching Greensburg, it is made by the same company that built the "silo house".
