  • Does your dog/cat come before you?

It's an apocalyptic scenario and you survived something that left very little people in the world.
You and your dog/cat survived and you haven't seen a soul in months/years.

There is no game or edible plant life.
Your food stock is gone, and the only thing that's left is cans of dog/cat food.

Do you eat the pet food by yourself?
Do you share it with your pet?
Do you not eat it and leave it all for your pet?
Do you share it with your pet and then eat your pet when all that pet food is gone?
I'll keep my guns, freedom, and money... YOU CAN KEEP THE "CHANGE"!

My dog in that situation would be more then a companion, I would look at him as a source of protection and a great way of alerting me to danger. Besides, no people after that long...he would probably help me keep my sanity.

There does come a point in time though that you have to decide is it worth it if your all that's left after too long.

In this scenario it doesn't seem like there is gonna be anything to eat afterward if you decide to eat your pet, so I'd share with them till it ran out. It sure would suck having to skin out one of your pets to eat, especially if you had lived through all that. Now if it was someone else's pet, that is a whole different story.

Reminds me of this story I saw earlier this year.

Eat the neighbors and share them with my pet... LOL just kidding....
I dont think I could let my pets starve.. I would let them go before we got to that point.

Id have to say that My dogs would get equal shares of food. or more depending. especially since they are good at running down small game and sniffing out fresh water. besides I dont need alot of food when push comes to shove.

In a situation as described you would....if you push yourself to gather everything you get....you will burn calories like they were going out of style....IMO

Yeah, but the scenario is, there's no game or wild edibles. So, it don't matter if your ray mears.

Ok, let me look at this again...haven't seen people in years, no wildgame, no edibles. I take it your food supply is used up correct? Well, if all that's left is some pet food and your pet then how long do you think you will last after eating your pet? Not very long. I would split up the pet food with the pet and kiss what's left of the world goodbye.

I won't sacrifce my pet seeing that after I eat him there won't be anything left to hunt or gather anyway.

I didn't think about the dog jerky .... I make my own but in this scenario it won't matter will it.

SnowWalker I share your sentiment on the matter .... if it's just me and the pup that's left it's game over for the both of us.
