  • Natural gas generator

If your in a small town, and your generator runs off natural gas, how can you expect it to last long term? Is there a way to convert that big Generac to propane?

I do believe there is I am installing a couple of generators at this time and will try and find some information pertaining to it, I think it only a matter of changing the fuel orifice

Did you look on line at the company site to see if they sold a conversion kit?

Technically, it's at my bug out location, I don't actually own it. I'd just wait till its abandoned

If you haven't already purchased a generator I would check to see if it's convertable to start with. Some come that way and some don't.
Natural gas appliances usually run on lower pressures than propane ones do.

We have a natural gas whole house generator that came with a conversion kit. I believe that most of these can be converted just make sure you have that kit. We are thinking about a very large propane tank but havn't figured out where to set it yet. I would really like to put up a good privacy fence first as we do live on a corner lot and we need more privacy. Even though most all of our neighbors are working together, we have several that fish and 2 that does big game hunting and supplies a lot of us with deer, bear and wild hog meat not to mention the fish. but still i would feel better with a little more privacy to our back yard.

I converted my Generac to propane. I got my kit from the these folks. They were very helpful.

Fuel your gasoline generator with propane or natural gas using easy do-it-yourself change over kits - Propane Generators.

Years ago I got a 1972 Onan Power Plant for free. It was taken out of a industrial building and was used for a back up lighting. Its 110/220v runs on either natural or propane gas. It runs on regular low (10-13 inch) pressure. Still see the cross hatching in the cylinder and run like a champ. The only problem is it takes 4 people to pick it up.
