I don't think that you will find a new one for less than 60. The longer blade gives more power in the swing and better leverage. For the difference in price I would get the longer blade. Don't think you will regret it. Knivesplus.com has them for $67

I went onto the Woodsman's website. I looked on ebay too. These critters are not cheap.
Anyone got the cheapest source for these things?
Too, the model with the handguard, it comes in a long and short version. Any suggestions as to what size you have. I am leaning toward the shorter version, it doesn't give up that much in my mind, but still produces the same effect.

All Woodman's Pals are made in the USA ( I prefer MOST things that way however I do like Norincos, fireworks and waxwood staffs from China).
Like any thing I buy, I do TONS of research on it. When I was locating a source for one, I was suprised to find it at my local knife wholesaler for $35 :eek:vs. the $60-70 online.
He only carrys the wood handle (no handguard) with a basic nylon sheath with a sharpening stone. I did a group buy on it a long time ago and bought all he had for that price. Last time I looked he had a few and I think they went up to $40 or $45 a pop...

Honestly, nowadays if you found one for less than $60-100, you'd better look and see if there's a "made iin China" label on it somewhere...
You definately get what you pay for these days, and I think we've all noticed the influx of garbage into what used to be a reasonably reputable industry. In fact, I'll be the first to admit: I've been suckered more than once by cheap imitations I thught were genuine bargains.

I started reading the first post. Thanks for a great discussion.
After reading Zombie' post I had a question regarding the Woodsman's Pal.
I read down to Bebopcop's post. He responded to the question I had. I have seen a couple of those Pals with the hand guard, and wondered if anyone out there actually used one.
A Woodsman's Pal is now on the list.
thanks guys

I'm on my second one with the handguard and it works great! You can't go wrong with this blade.

Glad we could help :)
I have not tried the one with the handguard but would think one of those would be nice!
