Go to garage sales, find old butcher knives, turn em into field knives.

Curdog, I seen a couple of different websites that advocate this as well. I have been hitting the flee markets and such and have found some nice candidates. I even ended up with an Opinel #8 for $3.00 because the guy never heard of one before. One item in particular I found was an Old Craftsman meat cleaver. It is MASSIVE! The blade is 1/4" thick from stem to stearn, full tang! I can easily see this thing becoming a home brew TB Tracker or similar device. I'll post pics as I progress.

a craftsman meat cleaver? wow how old is it? might be a collectible?

I actually found the behemouth in the basement of a house I bought. I would estimate it was made in the sixties, maybe earlier? It weighs a couple of pounds probably. It has the Craftsman logo and all stamped in the metal. Could be collectable? I've never seen one before or since.

I went to a local thrift store and found a 14" x 1/8" carbon steel saw blade for $2.00. I am going to try and make a knife out of it.

I've cut several old Hickorys skinners and butchers down as well as some nicer saw blades I have four clutch disks off a New holland skid steer in the shop now waiting for time and energy.
