I just picked up the Mora Companion MG knife in carbon steel. I am very happy with it so far. Very light and it seems durable and for the price you cant beat it. I have also heard alot of positive things about Mora and not really any negative. I really havent got to put it to use yet, but will soon.

i own two carving knives, clipper,a craftsmen triflex and 2 510's (slight finger guard) one has passed through all three of kids as a first knife
check out www.ragweedforge.com for some good prices I believe he has all of them in stock. i also agree with snow walker get several of different designs see which one you like. cant hurt to have a spare. I also prefer carbon over stainless but thats a personal preference.
google for reviews lots of people have overly abused them and even put new handles on them.

I;ve used moras allot over the past few years.. I probably have about 10 of them.. for the money you;d be hard pressed to find a better knife.
That being said.. very few of them come with "throug tangs these days.. even the wooden handled ones are 3/ tangs now.. that being said I;ve put these to the test and the 3/4 tang seem to be more than adequate for anything other than outright abuse.
My favorites are the new mora companion (in carbon)
and the Craftline 7-11 both are in the 11 dollar price range
good luck in your search.

I have a 511, and I think a 760(?). I like them both a lot. No issues with either one.

Everyone has there favorite Moras so buy a couple seeing they are so inexpensive to get a better idea. That awesome x-ray above pretty much says it all...none of them really have a true full tang, but mine have held up great.
I also prefer the carbon steel models. I have a Bushcraft Triflex that I love. Between this one and the one Domdabears has I think you would be happy and find a favorite. For the price you can't beat them!

I only own one, and that's the Mora 2 classic. It's like $10 and I love it!
I also prefer carbon steel.
If you haven't seen it already, here is that mora xray someone took.
