  • What is your favorite Axe and why?

I'll be investing in an Axe soon and would like some input on your favorite Axe and why.
I'm leaning towards a Weatherly or a Granfors.....

I looked at the one in my wood box....it has no name I can see....it was my grandfathers.

I use one of these for camping....

And I have a Fiskars that I bought at a yard sale last year....a bit awkward though..

I have an old craftsman axe, but I pretty much prefer the hawk and a saw.

One of my favorites is a Wetterling Mini- I have a GB Mini, and it is a lovely little thing, but the Wetterling mini got it right- it is JUST BARELY big enough to do real work, and it is a good splitter, unlike the more-expensive GB. It cuts better than the Fiskars/ Gerber mini too.

i have an Eastwing campers axe. A lot of trappers in Alaska carry these and their life depends on their equipment so I decided to give it a try. No complaints so far.

I have a snow and Neally Penobscot Hudson Bay and a Huskavarna hatchet. Larger axes include a keen Kutter 31/2 lb felling axe and a 2 /12 pound swampers double bit on a 24 inch handle

for limbing up trees, cutting wood for the campfire, and general camp chores. it's hard to beat the gransfors bruks forest axe.
i LOVE mine and use it all the time. they are expensive, but worth it IMO. i'm going to be investing in their american felling axe soon. i can't wait to drop some trees for the wood stove with that baby... i'm an axe/hatchet freak and love it...

having camped on a job for 2 months....with an axe the first 2 weeks (couldn't get to store to buy saw)....I will go with a saw from here on out...

An axe has it's place....but daymn....saws are easier for gathering cooking wood.

i have to say that i agree! an axe has its place in camp , no doubt. but a nice packable saw works much better (around here, anyway) for gathering cooking wood. its nice to have an axe to fell the tree(s) for camp, but when it comes to bucking up the camp wood, the saw wins hands down everytime IMO.

I have decided to buy a Husqvarna axe and field test it. I am much more comfortable with a knife than an axe. I have a few hatchets - Two Boy Scout's by Bridgeport and 1 Boy Scout by Plumb. My Dog Leg WSK will out chop them any day of the week.

My favourite axe is my classic Hultafors Forrest axe which was hand made in Sweden.

Why I like it is that its is big enough to make short work of camp duties but small enough to get it into my pack and light enough to carry.

As you can see I also carry a swedish packsaw.
