Used it once on a camp trip and took a chip pit of the blade while I was shaving down a stick.

For me it would have to be a Schrade Pro Hunter. I had a blade and a handle after one good wack from a baton. Cheap steel and crappy heat treat. After that experience many years ago I was bitten by the custom knife bug for most of my fixed blades.

Ultimate knife, I don't think so!

Ok, I'll take a flogging for this one! I bought one of Gerbers Bear Grylls Ultimate knives, yeah yeah I know Packaging at it's worst. I was initially impressed by the knife but that faded very quickly when used. Moderate use over a weekend camping trip destroyed this knife. Cutting through some natural fiber rope wore out the serrations, literally bent over the edges. Cut down some small1-2" thick branches left small chips in the fine edge of the blade didn't even think about trying batoning after that. I noticed that when I pressed down on the thunb jimping there was a pronounced popping sound, so the handle is separating. Checked continuity with my Fluke model 87 DMM proved the blade is not true Full tang. Fire starter loosens up when pulled out more than 5-6 times and the sharpener is screwed to the sheath.. Not a real problem if it were not for the fact that the screw heads were above the sharpening level. Produced really nice scrathes in the blade, totally ineffective for sharpening. The whistle is completely overwelmed and compresess if you have a pair of lungs and I couldn't get more than three fingers in the lanyard. I learned my lesson the hard way. Gerber is willing to exchange it, but I really don't want another one.

I had a Smith & Wesson M&P MAGIC for all of about 3 weeks in Afghanistan. If you're unfortunate to have bought one of these, I suggest you ensure all the little screws on it are tightened. Mine came loose (along with the spacers that allow the blade to fold & unfold), rendering the knife virtually worthless. I wouldn't buy another one ever in a million years. Even if the SHTF & I saw a brand new one lying in front of me still in the box, I'd keep walking.

cold steel magnum kukri machete blade warped right at the sweet spot 1st time useing it to trim some branches. had to finished the job with the trusty ontario been lying in a drawer since.

I was given a Smith&Wesson folding knife that failed miserably at every chore it was set to ending in a cut on my knuckle from a failed lock it now resides in pieces in a box I call the knife graveyard salvaged for spacers and screws I may in the future make a harpoon out of the blade their are about 20 failed knifes in the box from different service members who threw them out and I salvaged parts from them to many brand names to choose from but most look to be gas station purchases.

True very true there are bargains to be had
