Buy used or trade. I got a brand new still in box for $145. I got the smaller one for a daypack.

When you get one do some file work to change the blade angle.I also take as much of that black texture crap off as I can. Otherwise its a pretty good woods knife.

If I had the cash I'd be checking out one of the Horans also, but the TBT is a pretty grood knife.

In my opinion this is one of the most misunderstood knives in existance. I have one based on the original design made from D2. It weighs 19 1/2 ounces and is a very effective chopper.

In my opinion the best ones currently available are from Tim Horan.

I would save your money and get something more practical. Alot of what your paying for is the name. You could buy some nice gear for the price of that!

I used to make knives and the biggest problem a knife maker faces is how to market his skills, marketing is a very big thing in knife sales. 'Rambo' sold a million dollars worth of knives, $200K worth of good knives and $800K worth of cheap knives. I've carried 1 knife everday for the past 24 years, it's been 3/4 way around the world, it's almost worn out from use but it does a decent job at alot of different tasks, it's a Bob Terzula D-2 folder, I think it's the one he used in his tri-fold catalog back in 1988, cost $360 back then.
Today you can buy a simular D-2 sidelock folder for under $100. or a 440C folder for $15 and they will all perform pretty dam good.
'Pretty is as pretty does' There are alot of knife bargains at swap meets and gun shows, look for 1950-80s Name Brand US and European carbon steel knives, avoid the fancy Bowies, stay with the 3-5 inch knives and you'll do fine.
When I was living in asia and Australia most of the Bush types made do quite well with carbon steel blades, just realize that a knife is nothing more than a cutting edge with a handle attached, it's a tool and will wear out with use, just like clothes and even, people.
Personally if I was to prepare for some rough country I'd have a small sharp 3 blade stock knife, a medium sized sheath knife and a Machete with a saw back or Chopper and a multi-tool, plus a small stone and file.

I have a tracker , got it in a trade, its a very good knife, i will not get rid of it, but, i would not pay the 259.00 for a new one either. The knife is made to handle any field problem someone could run into! before getting my tracker i carried a benchmade 10300 folder in my pocket and a gerber backpax on my belt, that combo will handle any cutting problem!

I bought it cheap at a pawn shop and because I appraise knives I know what to pay and what I can sell it for. :D 2 weeks a go I sold 4 knives out of my collection and used the money to buy a new acog scope :eek: did I have $1300 invested in those knives ( no ) More like $400 not bad eh. I picked up both of the tom browns I owned the same way and more then a dozen randalls and 3 or 4 chris reeve's and many more. Would I go and dump that kind of money new? No way, not when a becker, Ka-Bar, Buck, Rat or others will work just as well. Do I love knives? You bet, but I look at them as money or a trade goods but because of what I do I get to own, handle end use knives that some people dream of owning.

$589.00 will buy ya a damn good Kabar ,and a good pocket pistol to boot .......or a whole lot of other preps. I just cannot make myself buy one of the many "designer knives" on the market these days. The material does not cost all that much and they can't have that much time invested to charge the prices they ask.Dollar for dollar the money is better spent in other areas,JMO

You have got to be f*ckin' kiddin' me.....you would lay down 500+ bucks for one knife ? No offense, man, but.................dammit...........I thought I was pretty liberal in my spending preps.....but I couldn't do it.....pretty, though... :D

I love those. I want one also. The price is kind of steep but I truly believe that knife is worth it and would prove very versatile.

I want one. Dave Canterbury (The Pathfinder from Wilderness Outfitters Archery) has one and I think (Dave if you're on here, lemme know) he uses one b/c he is pictured with it in several press pics on his facebook.

I've heard mixed press on it though... Any XColony family got one they care to discuss... I'm getting one new either way, just wanna see what y'all folks think.
