I think Tramontina machetes are head and shoulders above every other brand I've encountered. Other machetes are almost always made with extremely shitty steel and about 4 times thicker than they have a right to be.
I use a 24 inch one that has a blade that's probably under 2 millimeters thick and sharp enough to shave with. I can cut through a 2 inch branch with a single stroke and cut down a tree as thick as my thigh in a couple minutes. US made machetes are often more expensive and just amazingly inferior tools.

In my collection I have the Esee Junglas, the Kershaw Camp 10 and a Cold Steel Smatchet. I had a SOG Kukri but I never liked the feel of it and gave it away. The best machete that I ever had was made by Martin. I loaned it to a friend and he went off and left it at a camp site. I have never been able to find asnother one.

Cold Steel is the cat's meow, however..... The one I have (Had) and listed in this topic is cheap cheap cheap. That's the only reason they can sell it for $25ish. Now, Cold Steel does make awesomesauce Gurkha, you'll just be paying out your backside for them.
If you are hard set on a REAL Gurkha, Go here......
Cold Steel’s Gurkha Kukri was inspired by Cold Steel President, Lynn C. Thompson's close association with Dr. Maung Gyi, chief instructor of the American Bando Association - and it still bears their insignia to this day.I'm not a fatalist. I'm a realist.
