  • tactical pen input

I know this is a knife and & blade page but I was wondering if anyone could give me some input on a tactical pen. I was looking at the new one from Smith & Wesson and the one from Guardian. What do yall think?

I haven't looked at them in years. Seems like cold steel had one if I am remembering correctly. If so, they are a brand I really trust. I will dig into it again though.

Yeah, Cold Steal has them. "Pocket Shark". I got one and didn't really like it. 5.11 makes a good looking one:

I have a CRKT tactical pen. I think it would be serviceable as a weapon but it isn't particularly stealthy looking. I'm not sure if I tried to fly with it if TSA would let it through.

I have one of the older Smith & Wesson pens I carry. If you carry one learn about how to use a kubatton, I think I spelled that correct. A lot of people over look pens as weapons. At one time I could fly with mine, had it in my day planner.

I thought about the CRKT one, but I have so many weapons now another would just confuse me.

I have the CRKT, it's a little large and heavy for me, but I like it. I just have to remember to carry it more often. Click image for larger version

I have a couple of the "Uzi" ones. Glass breaker on one end handcuff key in the other. Uses Parker refills which write good. Other than testing the glass breaker and writing haven't used it for self defense. But it's part of my EDC gear

I always carry a handcuff key on my keyring. Depending on how they write I might get a tactical pen. If I get one that works well, I would always carry it.

I bought a regular stainless steel ink pin at office max and this thing is pretty tough and I feel sure I could use it as a weapon if the need arises . I have taken it with me all over the world and it writes good too .

I just ordered a Gerber, it is all steel. Uses several different types of refills. It has a glass breaker at the tip. I studied them for a long time, comparing various models. I can't see how an aluminum pen, or one that requires a cap would be much good for protection. This pen has a button on top like any regular ball point pen, it pushes the tip out and retracts it. It has a rough surface that would make it easy to hold on to. After I get it, I'll send a report.

I got my Gerber Tactical pen yesterday. It is all stainless steel with a black color. It is quite heavy for a pen, and has lots of grooves to help you hold onto it. It has a glass breaker at the tip, and is a push button pen. It will take lots of different types of refills, comes with a Rite in the Rain. One could put this in your fist and deliver quite a blow if needed, or stab an aggressor with it. I am quite pleased. One caveat is either get a pocket protector, or angle it in your pocket, the carbide tip will poke holes in your shirt.

I have two tactical pens made by Blackjack. They are well made and write well too. I am surprised that thery aren't well known since they are less expensive than most other tactical pens.

As my tactical pen looks too tactical and TSA wouldn't like it I started carrying a steel Cross pen.

I have been looking at the TOPs SOP tactical pens. Mostly for the fact that I have broken a few standard pens in my coat pocket.
These seem to be well designed with the carpenter pencil shape and not overly expensive.
