You can have the knife, but can I have this guy in my survival group? He is awesome! (I like the knife too, but the guy is cool.)"Oh, America. I wish I could tell you that this was still America, but I've come to realize that you can't have a country without people. And there are no people here. No, my friends. This is now the United States of Zombieland"

I was so embarrassed today. I got caught peeing in the pool. When the lifeguard yelled at me I jumped and damn near fell in.

After doing some research, I decided to buy an original, newly made in Shefield:

I would love to get a WW2 era knife, they are around $500 though. I'll settle for one of the original companies that made them.

This dagger is good for one thing.
A short close in attack on another human being. It is not good for chopping wood, cutting meat or other chores around a camp site or retreat. It was made for one job KILLING.
As a survivor this is the last knife I would take in the bush with me. The point may break off if you use it for any other chore, the handle on most of these knives is of a different metal and is welded to the blade. So if you were to use it for chopping wood the handle may break off.
No it is not a very good knife for a survivor! The blade is too thin less then 1/8" thick, too narrow, double edged (no possible pressure by using the back of the blade and your other hand), a thin point ready to break off, should I go on?

I never implied it was going to be used as a survival knife. You are correct. It's not even an all around fighting knife. It was designed for one purpose: To eliminate people stealthy and efficiently. My reason to purchase it is not because I ever think I will kill with it, but as a collector of things of a historic nature. Although, I may carry it as a self-defense tool. For SD purposes now, I carry either a Blackhawk Crucible FX2 or a Coldsteel Dart. The dart, I have owned for at least ten years. It fit, hidden and under between my Bianchi AccuMold duty belt magazine holder, just in case. :)
My do-all survival knife is a Chris Reeve Pacific Fixed Blade. Custom made in the $300 range. Like firearms, I don't trust my life to anything less.

I was going to respond the same way Buggy. Each tool to it's purpose. The Fairbairn-Sykes knife would be wonderful in a knife fight, and suck at making camp, but your average camp chopper would be clumsy and heavy in a knife fight, so we should all have 1 or more of each I say!
I usually don't need a lot of convincing on knives anyway...... The wife likes purses and candles. I like knives and backpacks. :p"Oh, America. People need to remember that this is a SURVIVOR FORUM:
My all round carry is a Randall Number 1. Got that way back in the late 60's for combat. I carried it thru 2 wars and I'm still very happy. It cost me around $125.00 back then. Of course gas cost 29 to 36 cents per gallon.
I have started to carry a different fixed blade knife for most chores other then close combat. It has a 6 1/4" full tang blade. Most survival experts tell people to carry a fixed blade that is between 5 and 7 1/2" in length. Unless you are Rambo! lol. Most of us are not. The blade has a small section of serration for cutting rope. The back of the blade has nothing added, other then a clean area to hit with a stick while chopping wood for fires. (Never hit the back of a knife with another piece of metal, you might bend it.) This knife is over 3/16" thick and is 2" wide. I have even skinned a white tail deer with it.
I also carry a 20" Collins Jungle Machete most of the time since I live in Florida! I wrote a review a number of months ago about it.
The best thing about these tools: Is they are comfortable in my hand for working a long time.
I personally do not like clip points because they tend to break over time.

I understand what your saying but I also try to keep in mind that not everyone has had my experience and training and definitely not your experience and training. I carried an air force survival knife for most everything and had the Gerber Mark II that was presented at graduation (never used it). I now carry a Becker BK2 and a Becker Necker as backup as well as my old Philippine bolo machete.
My addition to this thread may be considered inappropriate and I in no way intended to offend anyone but sometimes surviving means doing the hard things. I believe it is better to have a skill set and never need it than to need that skill and not have it. (just my opinion.)

Well, I will put in another thought to this........ This is a survival site. So it is entirely appropriate that we look at tools designed to defend our selves and our homes, as well as tools for wilderness/ bushcraft survival.
After all, we have discussed tanks before right? Now that isn't exactly about camping survival or bushcraft........ It is about defending the home-front in a shtf scenario. So why this issue with this tool as an option? No it is not my go-to all round knife. But it seems like it would be a good choice on a tactical vest, in certain scenarios. Of course this is others expertise not mine, but I like the dagger for it's intended use."Oh, America. I wish I could tell you that this was still America, but I've come to realize that you can't have a country without people. And there are no people here. No, my friends. ( on topic, please mark this momentous occasion on your calendars )
Survivorman Les Stroud says EVERYONE should have and carry a Swiss Army knife..... but then I did watch him eat the 5 day leftover remains of a fish that some eagle had chomped down on.....and he drank untreated water from a lake..... hmmm.... maybe I should stick to off topic posts.....
