You guys ever wonder how you would care for and feed your pes especially dogs in a SHTF scenario?
Worried about having enough food to feed 2 large dogs
WHAT IF THE AMERICA YOU KNEW, WAS ABOUT TO CHANGE?
The best thing you can do to support the site is pass it on to your friends and fav sites like other forums, facebook, twitter etc. Let people know about us! :)
Yes my Shepherds eat quite alot of food. Fortunatley they eat the SAME food so at least it makes logistics easy:)
As for my preps, this is probably my biggest challenge, to store enough food for them. I keep about 400lbs of dog food on hand and rotate it out often. It is stored in plastic drums (food safe of course). Would like to increase that to at least 1000lbs, but at the current price of $56.71 per 104lbs (what 2 52lb bags cost with tax) that is still aways off. Before anyone thinks I am neglecting my other stores, don't worry got that covered ;)
A store of dog chow (or cat or whatever) also has the benefit of being able to ride out the "poison pet food from china situation", UNLESS you bought the tainted food. Be sure when storing bags of food in larger containers to include the brand, date bought and LOT #. That way if there is a recall, you can tell if your pet chow is tainted
I actually like (love) my dogs more than most people and they do EARN their keep. The UPS man has urine stains on his brown uniform from when my pups come to greet him :) I know, TMI!!!!
So don't forget your pets :( They depend on you to see them through :) and many will be worth their weight in gold for the force multiplier effect they will give you WTSHTF

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.
The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
The dogs would be cared for, so long as they stayed close...I would not allow a lost dog to slow my egress, and I can't offord to fight one on a leash during bugout scenario, either.
I do keep a few days' worth of rations in my Bulk BoB for the mutts, though.
The pet rat would be dropped off at the gate, and the cats will be ble to either fend for themselves, or become meat.
Bottom line is: I love my dogs, but they meean absolutely nothing to me, should they be a burden on my wife and child's safety measures....the rest of my pets are even more expendable, should TSHTF.

I'm hoping my dog will provide for me! I've seen her run down and kill a rabbit with ease, though the dang squirrels get away every time.
I like those big bulk containers of food, though I haven't purchased one yet. I don't usually keep more than a week's worth of dog chow handy. One more thing to add to the top of my preparation list.
If we have to run, the dog is coming with me (great protection), and I'll catch the dang squirrels myself if I had to in order to feed her.
The cats are on their own. I'd love to take them with me too, they are pretty good mousers, but unless I have a specific place I know I am going to, and a vehicle bringing me there, I just can't be lugging them around everywhere in their carriers.
Wife has a little Shi-Tzu that can and does survive on very little food. My boxer would carry his weight as a lookout/defender, and I already keep a stockpile of food for him. He'd eat what I eat if we had to hit the road. He goes EVERYWHERE with me...never been away from my side for more than a few hours, he doesn't go out of sight, and he's always alert. I'd consider him an asset. Smartest dog I've ever had.
Here he is at 4 months...
I'm pretty sure my Aussie would have a decent chance in a bug-out...she usually stays close, unless she gets super-curious, and she regularly gobbles small rodentia around the property. As a defender, she's an absolute coward, but is alert, none-the-less, and as long as I didn't have to take any contravening steps for her, she'd be welcome, and well cared for.
My little Yorkie, though, I'm afraid would be meat within days. She likes to bark, constantly strays, and is pretty much useless as anything but a lovable little furball. I'd mourn her if she were lost, and would attempt to save her, within reason but, like I said..... pets, to me, are not a priority, and like it or not, a liability is a liability, no matter how cute it is.
Sure is a cute little sh*t, though.....all cuddled up at my feet right now....*tear*...I'll love her to death, for sure.

My Rat Terrier ears his wait. 1 more dead pidgeon on the porch this morning. Plus, he does not realize it, but he is meat on the paw should I absolutly need it.
I've had pooch...it's just as good as any other meat....I'd probably be depressed about knowing my meat's name, but would be eternally thankful for it saving my life....one way or another.

Yeah, I've eaten it a few times. Cat also, plus other things that are straight off Andrew Zimmerman's Bizarre Foods.

Hey, meat's meat......and it's gotta be dead for you to eat it.....

I'm still thinking about what Rusty said, "Ears his wait". At first glance I want to think that he's illiterate, but if I make that statement then I know he will embarass me with a perfectly plausible explanation of why he said it this way. So..........Rusty? "Earns his weight" or was "ears his wait" what you really meant to say? :D
Mail runs in 4 hours or so. Should be something for both of us. Hope so. It was mailed Tues. I think.
JUST CURIOUS? PRUNES ARE DEHYDRATED PLUMS. SO WHERE DOES PRUNE JUICE COME FROM?
My neighbor keeps way too many heathens and currs. I too have eaten canine, it was quite tasty. Looks like a Korean supermarket for me up the road! I used to despise those dogs, but now I'm thinking it may well keep undesirables off my back since I'm on a dead end road and she's living up wind of me. Time will tell.
