I'm not sure why, but I just had the impulse to add something out-of-the-ordinary to my BoBs, as I was stowing the new radios:
A 25ft. roll of 16g. solid copper wire and a roll of black electrical tape....in each BoB.
Just seems like a useful thing to have....
Any other suggestions?

One idea if you are planning on using the wire for antennas is to go with "magnet wire" as it is thinner and you can carry more wire and string up a larger antenna... Of course this would work better for SW than FRS/GRMS...
Go to this website and look for something new that you will probably want for your BOB: www.countycomm.com be sure to check out the whats new section and scroll down :) Only bad part is they probably will quit filling orders next week until the first of the year:(

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to
beat you to death with it because it is empty.
The faster you finish the fight, the less shot you will get.
I'm really just thinking of snaring, minor circuit repair, makeshift antennae, etc.
Mostly Mcguyver-tyoe stuff.
I don't hav any knowledge, whatsoever of commo, except that when I push a button, and the other person is within range, I should hear a prompt response.
When commo's down, or in need of upgrade, I'll be off somewhere else, hopefully, and leaving it to the experts.

Yeah the thicker stuff would be more useful for snares, but the magnet wire can really make a CHEAP SW radio really pull in the signals... but you hafta scrape some of the enamel off of the wire when you attach it to your whip antenna :)

Anyone think of musical instruments? A musician would be able to pay/play for their supper in a community of depressed, stressed or overworked people. A harmonica, flute, Uke, voilin or travel guitar would be good bets for crowd pleasers and easy to stow, provided you know enough about the guitar to remove and then restring a neck. And with any string instrument, you need to pack extras, which in a pinch can be used for other things. If SHTF becomes the perma-scene, you can always go back to cat gut. (Just not MY cat. He IS a Mussolini-esque asshole, but a great mouser.) A tuner or pitch horn would be good too. One of those, a ratchet and a @#$%load of patience and you can tune anything, including a piano. (Yeah my hubby is a glutton for punishment.)

Here is some wire that I have found tons of uses for. It is a stainless steel 49 strand fishing leader wire. It is light, strong super flexible and cheap, I also have the crimper and sleeves for it but you don't need those. I have made traps, snares, cut through PVC and HDPE pipe with it, trip wires for tangle foot and oh ya fishing. I buy it in the 30ft spool 400# test in camo for around $14.00. If you buy a bulk spool like 300ft of 400# test camo its about $120
