  • An article by Jackie Clay, Backwoods Home Magazine, Common Sense Planning

By Jackie Clay Issue #55 • January/February, 1999 Today, many people are afraid that hard times are about to descend upon us because of the Y2K computer date problem, also known as the Millennium Bug. Others fear that the economic chaos occurring in Asia, parts of South America, and parts of Europe will engulf the […]

I forward these on to everyone because I find them, very interesting. Many of the members here are becoming more and more prepared, yet, all of us are at different levels of preparedness, and some just beginning :)I learn so much new information, daily. I enjoy this magazine, and I suggest if you have not read any of their articles, to take a look. I have heard mention of some of you owning many of the older archives.. What wonderful material to have on hand! Thanks!

The "Whole Shebang" they offer....is worth it's weight in gold. The wife and I have had a subscription to it since the 2nd year.....and have bought all the anthologies....many of the books....and just about all of Jackies cook books. She cooks from stores....and cans like a mad woman.

It's always a "who can grab it first" game when it comes in....very down to earth stuff.

Massad Ayoob is one of their contributors....but not in the same capacity as how he writes for GUNS Magazine or Guns and Weapons of Mil and LE. He takes more of a "what works for the homestead approach.

Very like minded politically.....with out being too political....if you get my meaning.

Thanks Maric. Wow, when you look at that list of food supplies for a year it looks like a lot.
I picked up a #50 salt block at the co-op for less than $5. Thought we could scrape it off as we needed it. Seems like it would be plenty to last for a while, relatively small for weighing 50 lbs and no iodine so can be used on meats and for canning. What do yall think?
