I have run many senareos through my mind many times. One thing I am certain of is this, if you have a bunch of food and medical supplies stocked up for you and your family and a large group of people see you doing well when they are hungry and hurting they are coming for your stuff. Another thing I am certain of is this, ther is always life by the water. By water I mean rivers and streams. Every animal has to drink and they will come to a river or stream to do it not to mention the fish. In my opinion you get your supplies and get as far away from the general public as possiable. Hunger, loss of services, disease, anarchy, looting, killing are just some of the things that will come with economic collapse. Remember to check the experation dates on your medical supplies.

I used to have some very basic supplies on hand, but then Katrina hit and so many other natural disasters took place. That was the big Flashlight in the face for me. We live within the city of Decatur, so we are limited to what I can do as far as livestock etc. I can guarantee you that when and if the shtf, game rules are off. I'll do what I need to do to get the job done. The plans are in place. I know exactly where my chickens and rabbits are coming from. Our garden is good size for our space available and my wife has been canning since she was a kid so thats under control. dry stocks are well stored and critter free. I pretty happy at this point with the changes we have made in our lifestyle. Happy prepping!

The food prices are going up, but it will hit BAD in the fall, when the flooded farmlands do not produce the yield and the reserves we are supposed to have are gone. There is going to be a food problem.
All the farmers know it (including me). This month it is time to plant broccoli, cucumber, more beans and next month garlic and lettuces. You can plant a lot in a small area. We are learning to can and buying extra at Farmer's Markets and putting it away. We just starting getting dairy goats. There are so many things we can all do to have a little extra stored and then you have something to trade. Maybe I have beans and you have medical supplies. i just believe that if everyone does their best, we will be able to support ourselves and each other. The worst has not come yet. I am trying to think differently and be inspired by the creativity and survival of those who became great people during and because of the depression and to embrace living a new way before it hits us and we are not ready. A few items I have discovered to be of great comfort are: a woodburning stove that we can also cook on, mushroom water purifiers, DIY's build your own solar panel site and Grit magazine.
you'll not find a lot of sheep here....I've found that most here share the news....but nothing really suprises them any more.
Cause and effect....cause is over....brace for effect....:(

I hate to re-rail, but I wanted to follow up with another mind numbing observation. As it turns out, folks who volunteered and "just showed up" to help with the clean up of the tornado's aftermath (see original post video - page 1)... well guess what... many were not "registered with the city's clean up efforts" and "they were fined hundreds of dollars for their efforts." Further, the local press (mouthpiece) indicated "no more volunteers were needed."
Can somebody tell me when and where local government was granted the authority to tell me when and where I can and can't help out my fellow citizens/neighbors?

We are essentially headed toward the same situation Russia was in, in the early 90s....
Broke....with horrific inflation
You had to have a wheel barrel full of rubles to buy a potato....
As folks made the transition....a lot suffered from malnutrition....mix that with bad hygiene and lack of good medical care.....and it was a disaster waiting to happen.
Look on the bright side....The hierarchy of their gov't didn't have to suffer.....and they have almost made it back to a solid "poverty" level.
Happy days ahead....

NASA, Homeland Security (to the in-crowd), CDC, FEMA, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Norway, are either actively prepping or encouraging their employees to prep.
What do they know that we don't?

This is right on the mark. We could very well be headed for another even greater depression/ inflation. All, let me repeat that "All" politicians of both major parties are on the take frome the big money interests. Why, do we give billions to the oil companies making record profits and ripping us off at the pump. This is not fantasy money we give them it is our tax dollars! One nameless politician recently said if we didn't give them billions gas would cost even more............ "HUH"..
"and somewhere some one is chanting free market" right on my friend.

Even if a true SHTF situation neever occurs the unemployment problem along with the general economic problems the world over will make those that have prepped VERY thankful.

I fear man before I do Mother Nature. Mother Nature isn't cruel or kind she is what she is. Man on the other hand is capable of far worse and will destory himself sooner or later. Mother Nature doesn't know greed, anger, selfishness, deceit, lies, cruelty, but man has excelled at perfecting all of them, killing over them and never learning from his mistakes.

maric three suggestions...
1. Semi truck with luxury sleeper unit and a train cowguard mounted to the front.
2. bulldozer with an enclosed cab. lots of fun...
or 3. a steam roller.
actually come to think of it, you could get an ice cream truck too that music dang near kills brain cells.
