I work in a small office (40 people) and have two friends there that are preppers. I was talking to one friend about our recent trip to the LDS cannery when the HR mgr walked up and invited herself into the conversation. She asked why we felt the need to go to the cannery and store food (She had no idea how much we store) I played it off and said that I like to have a few days food on hand in case of an ice storm and I can't get to the store, or the possibilty that the delivery trucks couldn't get to the stores and the shelves might get empty. A plausible concept even for someone with her head stuck in the sand, right?
    Wrong.
Her reply was this: "That could never happen, there are laws in place that require the grocery stores to stay stocked" I swear that's what she said and I have my friend as a witness. My friends and I joke about it all of the time, but this is an "educated" woman in her 40's that honestly believes this.
Her parting words were.... You guessed it. "If it ever does happen, I coming to your house."
The 12ga.... It's not just for rabbits anymore.

I just tell them go ahead and start building a house somewhere on the farm, It gets pretty cold and dark at night. That usually makes them quiet down.
A government that can give you everything you need is also strong enough to take it away!

Its scary how many people do indeed think that way.. reminds me of the "Xtranormal" videos you see... lol.. where the characters are chatting.. and one character is incredibly ignorant, and just cant look past their "rose colored glasses"..

did you ask her to site the law?.......I think that statement brought down the collective IQ of the entire US......wow...

Ive had people say that to me LOL and had a few drop by after wading thru waist deep water to get to my place after a hurricane LOL.

other than a few friends most people dont know I prep. so those I dont mind, they have skills that can be useful.

what annoys me, how ever is the way so many people can just dismiss disasters with things like" oh a hurricane, here, its been 15 years or more since we had one." even though a tropical storm two years before had shut down the area for two or three weeks. I seriously dont get that.

Heck Id be happy if they just set up a small BOB and a weeks worth of Canned goods or MRE's. it would be something at any rate.

I just had this conversation at Easter with my family...they all said they would come to my house and I told them they would not be welcomed...I told them I would be glad to help them prepare and I got the "I cannot afford it saying"...then I told them you cannot afford not to....I got the "I got a gun so I will be ok" and I said I got a gun too and you won't be. There is no one who cannot go to dollar tree and at least buy a bag of beans and rice each week and a gallon of water. They are not going to be happy on their birthdays this year...I am going to give them a 5 gallon bucket packed with beans and rice...maybe I will dress it up and put them in mylar bags...

Sounds like the perfect gift, always fits. I need to get you to chat with my wife. Actually she's pretty good, almost always get Cabella's gift cards, they always fit too.
