  • multiple uses for items in your kit/bag.

    How many of you have multiple uses for one item and what are they mine are :

    Trash bags: besides the obvious, they can be a poncho, temporary shelter, a solar still, water container, waterproofing gear, or a makeshift gear bag.

    Dental floss: sewing thread, fishing line, lashing poles together.

    550 cord: anything is possible with paracord.

    duct tape: gear repair, shoe / boot repair, can be used to make a water container.

    What are some of your multi use items?

        in a hikers pack everything should be multiFUNctional, from the sliver of bar soap to the alcohol in his or hers stove.
        i am building a pack with this ideology,...how bout pack frame stiffeners that double as tent frame poles or versa vice?
        parachute that doubles as hammock as tent as tarp as ground cloth as sleeping bag .......
        victorinox swiss army knife{dont get outa bed without it}.
        how bout walking stick that triples into stool at the end of a long walk or possibly defends you with a 12 gauge bang-stick permanently attached to the end {FEDS require it to be permanent or it becomes a sbs}
        not the ultra lite package yet but am listening...
        redundants are very few but layers are many

                  Did you see the Myth Busters eppisode on Duct Tape?

                  I also carry rubberbands and a small roll of flagging tape.

                      They did make a bridge, but sadly you still can't stop a car with it. :)

                          How about a large flask of corn liquor: fire started, sanitizer, a little something to help numb the pain or boost the spirts.
