Unfortunatly, here in Illinois there are way too many robots walking around without a clue in the world. Some in my Tea Party group sound open to ideas, but I keep pretty quiet about everything as to stay under the radar. The biggest question I get is about teaching people how to shoot, which makes me nervous, because when they go out and shoot up a school or something, I'm sure I would be blamed. So I am very particular about who I will bring to the range.

Have a group of 9 like minded folks. Different levels of prep. All are familiar with rifles, most a familiar with pistols. We get together 4-5 times a summer for weekend Camping/R&D trips. Plus we are all good friends and we see each other all the time either shooting at the local range, hunting, fishing or just shooting the breeze. We each buy different items in bulk and split the up between ourselves and replenish what we have used on our R&D trips. We each try to teach each other what we know from knots to survival, huntings skills, basic camping skills, gun safety, edible plants, emergency medical (triage) and more........I try to learn something new every time I go out! We have several books and military manuals, if it's raining we each grab a book, sit back and read.......If something interesting is read we share it with the group. Theses books circulate within the group all the time.

Just myself and my wife, and we live in a lower-middle class urban area, so demographically speaking, we may not find anyone "on our side."

I wish I had a neighbor or two that was on the same page as I am.

Our group is quite involved....fairly close knit band of folks.
We try to get together once a month as a whole....but it usually works out to be at least one rep from each family....it has worked thus far.
Is anyone else storing food and supplies at a common BOL?

yes...we've been meeting for almost 2 years now. Each meeting several of us give talks or demos on subjects we want to know more on. We meet each month, have a big potluck and have a great time. We host it, and have room for target shooting too. I reached out to members of several different forums like this to get like minded folks. Worked for me; we all get encouraged and learn something.

Reached out (blindly) and got my hand bit off by "unlikeminded" folks. No irreparable damage. I just keep my mouth shut though from here on and quietly observe those I run across in daily life.
I will say I was blessed the first time I reached out. A couple responded to a post I made on another internet medium, we conversed by phone, eventually met, and have been keeping up ever since. Though, they are at a different stage in their lives than I am in mine. Makes making congruent long term plans a little difficult. But again, they were my guide post at difficult time and continue to help inspire my preps and way of thinking.
I also chat with other like-minded folks in the area via internet, but no more face-to-face meetings. All of them sound really nice.
Have also befriended 1 or 2 nice folks at the LDS cannery, but I wouldn't call that anything more than casual encounters mutually-beneficial bulk purchases. Still, very nice folks.
Any N.Texans, shout howdy and drop me a line.

I have spoken with a guy in my area that I met on another forum. We have spent a few afternoons together talking preps but nothing locked down. He is far ahead of me with preps and I don't want to lock anything down with him until I feel I'm more prepared and have more to bring to the table. I'm uncomfortable with entering into any agreement as the lesser. I would want to be an equal partner. It is good to know someone else is out there though.

I only have one friend that is on my level of prepping, and both our family's combined would make a fairly divers group.
There are several friends I would consider talking to about if tshtf they are welcome at my place.

I'm a lone wolf, in that my family forms the basis of my survival group. However, I am in communication with many similarly-minded individuals, some local, and there is a "mutual-aid" understanding.
