  • Where to start...

:confused:So im trying to get my bearings ....and some input.
I want a cabin in the woods, and a little piece of land where i can try my hand at self suffiency.
My man and i are splitting up and well its time to get back to MY goals.
I know how to garden raise animals and butcher so...im not walkking in blind.
But i have to get some money together to get started, what is a good goal to set, money wise?

And any other input you guys dont mind giving.

If you are anything like me you first have to get your a@$ out of debt. Just keep your eyes open for a good buy and do every thing you can to prepare yourself for the opportunity.

Shelter, clothing for the season, water, food and a means of self defense .... Cost? I wouldn't know how to appraise any of this. You have your personal goals .... creat a plan to accomplish and begin implimenting it. I suppose if I were to tally all my expenses to this point .... $$$$ .... I'd be scratching my head and saying "I can't believe I spent all that money". If I live beyond act 1 of the upcoming show, this "investment" will assure me a degree of comfort.

Imagine yourself cold, wet, hungry and injured .... this may help you establish a plan to prevent this condition. Set goals that are within reach. You mentioned wanting a cabin in the woods .... is this realistic ..... within reach? I don't have any idea how much time we have to prepare for the onslaught but if someone were to guess 12 months I'd say thats a considerable stretch.

To address non specifics I'd start with a travel bag aka "bug out bag". The bag should contain everything necessary to provide you minimal comfort and security for a three day period .... food, water, clothing, hygiene, weapon and ammunition ..... again .... imagine yourself standing in the woods ..... and doing everything you need to do to comfortably exist 24/7 X 3 ..... and keep it with you/within reach/in sight at all times.

        Make a plan .....

This is a very tough question to answer Cntrygrl. You definitly need to sit down and start by making lists and then prioritize them. A BOB is probably a good place to start, and maybe a vehicle survival kit. It sounds like my dream place is pretty close to what you have in mind, but my wife calls me crazy anytime I come home with or recieve in the mail any new SHTF supplies. I believe until Chicago goes up in a ball of flames, or the rioters are headed our way, she will want to be left in the dark. Luckily for you SC has some excellent areas to have a bit of space. It is ultimatly up to your tastes and wants and needs. Not having much or any debt puts you ahead of many others.

I am getting a food supply together and am now in the process of buying trade meterials.
A few extra of this or that, this way I could swap for something that I need if the situation arises.

You and I have about the same kind of plan. I want to get some land and build a cabin and put in a Solar system and live off grid. I can build the house with no problem but don't know crap about growing stuff or raising animals.....

I am former military and so I feel pretty good about my security as I am pretty set on the weapons side of things.

I am actually trying to get a gig over in A-stan so I can afford to do some of the things that I want back here in the states.... We shall see how that turns out.... just hope nothing really bad happens if I do go over seas...
