So many versions of SHTF seem to be based on a fairly quick end. Personally I see a slow and gradual decline into TEOTWAWKI as our oil supply declines and the Government slowly creeps into every aspect of our lives. Many people will not even know about it until they wake up one morning to find themselves living in the dark ages.
Unless we are nuked into the stone age or experience numerous volcanic eruptions in a single decade, I don,t truly feel that any amount of preperation will have much of an effect. Yes I know I am a pessimist. That is why I am here.

and a country boy can survive what do i think it will be not having enough provisions to outlast whatever it is or if one of my kids get sick the gooberment is a joke i aint worried about them i'm worried about the common normal stuff see yall loook at it this way they don't help us any other time why the hell should they start now

"What is your Apocalypse?", This is the question that has driven me to many a night with one and a half Ambien in my system. My Apocalypse is seeing the freedoms that I served to protect being supplanted by this conceptual utopia of Socialism-Facism with the religion of extreme-environmentalism. As I'm typing this I'm looking at my words and I'm in a state of disbelief realizing that things have me this worried. I remember the days when I was in grade school back in the North East singing songs like "This is my country", "My country 'tis of thee", "The Pledge of Allegiance" and taking a moment of silence ( I usually used that moment of silence to look around to see what everyone else was doing or I used it to worry about a test I was not prepared for). Now I see that all of the things I feel built my character as an American, to feel proud of my country despite the prejudice I saw and encountered, it was the common foundation that I feel WE ALL shared in this country are systematically being attacked. I see the Meek, Weak and "Timid souls" that have flourished and taken over because they remained behind the protection and opportunity provided them by selfless men and women whom are REAL patriots. My Apocalypse is seeing it (American democracy) all going away; being forced to relocate my family (kids) to a place where they will be able to work hard and earn as much as they deem enough and not the "state" dictating that they have made enough and therefore they will now work to pay for the sloth-like toads that choose not to work at all (redistribution). My nightmare is realizing that a once proud nation will be relegated to civil infighting, fracturing and eventually a state where we will take our direction from a world body that cares nothing about us except to ensure that they "exact their justice" against us.

I don't know what's coming. I think the 2 most likely are:

- Total government takeover. We'd get our food and housing from the fed. Since about 96% of the mortgages in the country have been bought by the fed, this worries me. I could see them coming and saying, "pay in full or move out", or "your job is now to recruit democrats or move out", or "no TEA parties or you don't eat" and of course, the biggie (and probably the first they'd do), "give me your guns or you don't have a place to live OR food".

- Financial collapse. ATMs wouldn't work, grocery stores would be looted, martial law would be declared until the soldiers realized they weren't getting paid. Inner cities would burn when the welfare checks stopped coming. Unions would riot (like in Greece) when they discover that they can no longer consider themselves retired on full pay at 55. When the dust settles, we'd be back to the first option.

If Yellowstone blows (or BIG asteroid hits, or something like the movie 2012), the entire world is stone age, take real luck to survive.

Not much we can do about the big bang (whatever the cause), we can (and are) preparing for the first two.

I think we all know the Government never does anything for anyone without getting something in return. That is why we are on this site and preparing ourselves to be self sufficient.

I'm trying to prep for a broad range of disasters, but I feel that the total collapse of the dollar is eminent.
When this happens, as SO's wife has pointed out, there will be chaos. Cities will burn. Looters will be loading their trunks with everything that isn't nailed down. Local gangs that already have an organized chain of command will have their way with anyone or anything that they can overcome by strength and numbers. LEO's and National Guard will only be able to do so much, before they'll need to get home and care for their own.

I use Katrina and the LA riots of 92 as my prep model. Imagine the behavior of the people in either one of these events happening in every city in America at once.

Certain groups of people in this country are looking for an excuse to behave like animals, and they have proven time and time again that any little reason will do. Whether it be a Hurricane disaster, a video displaying racial violence, a city wide blackout, You name it, the looters are waiting.

I'm far enough out of the city, where I'll see the smoke as Greensboro burns, as well as some refugees as they flea the city. I'm hoping I'll have a few days to a week or two, before the real violence reaches my front door.

nak i was trying to be funny the gooberment could'nt run a whore house,they could'nt get fema moving fast enough,now they cant fix an oil leak....we are the little peeps in america besides if it comes down to it america does have a little known big brother for the goverment just in case they get out of line as far as my armageddon not getting my kids or my wife quick enough or forgetting one of my key prep steps or having to divert to a new plan i will get more indepth later ggt

You are saying something more than you might realize. When I was still driving cross country, there was a place called "Mustang Ranch" outside of Reno. It was a whorehouse and it eventually went into bankruptcy.
The Gooberment took it over and tried to run it and ddi not succeed.
They eventually sold it to someone and the last time I was through there it had been turned into a housing devolpment.
