Headed out...

Hey, XC...I'm headed out with a buddy or two to our survival camp tomorrow night thru Sunday morning (Winter storm=fun survival challenges)....anyway, I'm gonna be filming some stuff and just wanted to offer a challenge:

What techniques or skills do YOU want to see demonstrated?

If it's within reason for a 2x2 jaunt, I'll vid and post next week....

Here's one... pretend that you forgot your food. Are there any foraging possibilities? No guns either -- (I mean to kill supper)... trapping fine... I know that's an "extreme" idea, but it might be the only one you get! :) Stay safe and have fun, look forward to some good pics/movies.

Awesome...my bud's actually planning on setting up several conibear spring traps (never used 'em)...we'll also be working with f4 deadfalls, and paracord snares...I will probably take something w?the pellet rifle too, but I'll def. get some trapping/snaring vids....

is there snow on the ground?

if you have a stream/water source

catch a fish via line
catch a fish or water species via trap


make a solar still

document and identify 3 different types of animal tracks

find and identify & document 3 different wild edibles

try and document a new to you fire starting method i.e lens or bow

build/create a tool from natural material found at or around site

if you get real snow in your snow storm make snowshoes from natural materials

Scenario the two of you head off in different directions. alter course several times. 1 person stays put and guides other person to them via radio using map, compass, cooridnates

Holy f***ing sh*t, Batman! Not much snow...just around an inch or so of freezing rain and up to a 1/4" of ice accum....we do have a stream, but not large enough to fish...the pond is frozen solid at 4"...

If I do all that on vid, I won't have time for bear hunting with my flyswatter...but I'll give it hell...xD

don't forget to boil water and put it in your nalgene before bed time, throw it in your sleeping bag to stay warm... a sock over it will keep you from burning yourself initially...


Also if freezing temps store your nalgenes/canteens upside down

I do it the easy way...my water sleeps in the bag w/me...keeps it nice and liquid, and I like warm rocks more than the warm water...don' know why...lazy I guess....
