Ok I cannot tremember tnhe Bill number offhand but there is a bill currently working its way thruough Congress. THis little bill is meant for nothing less than total control of the small farm in America, in other words getting rid of them. This bill will oversee the production of food of any type, crops, cows, pigs, eggs etc. THis is how the bill is supposed to work as it currently is written.

Anyone that raises food crops or farm animals will be under the effects of the Interstate Commerce clause that states the Federal GOvt has the right to regulate business that crosses state lines. NOw lets say I raise chickens and sell the eggs at a local fresh food market. EVERYTHING that I use to raise those chickens must be made within the state that I live or I cannot sell anyhting outside of my state. If I live on or near the broder of another state ans the local food market is across the state line then I cannot sell anyhting there or I will be fined up to $5,000 per ITEM as well as face up to 90 days i jail PER ITEM.

What makes this even more insane is that the list of stuff that is covered under this bill. My hypothetical chicken farm must have everything from within my state. If the paint on the coop is made in another state, the wire made in antoher state, the feed, the bucket I use to collect the egggs..... if ANYTHING is made in another state my products cannot be sold across state lines. Now there are very few things that a farmer uses that is made in the state that he/she lives. This results in the small farmer having even harsher restriction placed upon him than he already has. The big conglomerates tried last year when the bill was first introduced to make small farmers pay a copyright/patent rights fine if they use a crop that is found to be cross pollenated by one of the conglomerates food crops(i.e. a Monsanto corn hybrid is upwind from a small farmer and the Monsanto corn has pollen that driifts and pollinates the small farmers crops and Monsanto can prove it by showing the unique genetic markers that the small farmers corn now has from the pollen of the Monsanto corn).

I will try to find the Bill number... it is somewhere on my laptop.

    R. I cross the Sherman Minton Bridge twice a day every day so that is not a problem. I will just make a little side trip the next time I go to buy some silver.

I believe they do fireman, check out their website they have everything on the site that they sell. If I remember correctly they have 25 different types of tomatoes listed. And they still do mail order if you decide you don't want to fight the traffic on the bridge. I hate that drive back from Bass Pro.

I planted my tomatoes the 19th and today they are about 2 1/2 inches tall, all seeds germinated ,peppers so far are no shows.

No other chatter that I have seen about this, after thinking on it some, it is likely that the hub-bub was more about an individual selling on Ebay, rather than having a real "store" that has likely been registered/certified by the USDA or the like. There has been concerns with feral/diseased flora being introduced to new regions with detrimental effects... that might be the issue.

In a related incident... just ordered my seeds (small order of heirlooms) to get my garden going this year.... http://www.heirloomacresseeds.com/default.asp
I ordered 9 varieties of veggies, all shipped for $3.50... total order less than $25. I ordered double what I figured I'd need, just to put some back. If I get good yield from the varieties I chose, I may make a bulkier order, just to hoard. Never ordered from that site before, but they have good reviews out in the forums.

All the warnings here about getting your heritage seeds before the government moves on food supplies of just regular folks may have seemed alarmist and dire...a little "Too much tinfoil, George!". But if you think I'm BS'ing about the government seizing seeds purchased from places like eBay, try this email on for size:

    "Mr. Ure,

Thank you for your insightful news articles/website, I enjoy reading them each morning. I wanted to share some information with you and your readers regarding a recent incident, involving the USDA. I'm still totally blown away by the fact that a USDA (SITC) Officer came to my home yesterday morning and left his business card and a brochure stating that I have allegedly purchase illegal (sweet corn) garden seeds from Ebay. I'm suppose to contact this SITC officer today and speak with him concerning this Ebay transaction. Our government has nothing better to do than travel to an individuals home and investigate a small amount of garden seeds? I've read and listened too some speculation that our government is trying to crack down on individuals rights to grow their own produce but I assumed that this was just hype. Maybe there is some legitimacy to this type of investigation but I just can't understand that's it justifiable with so many more important issues like smuggling illegal immigrants or narcotics.

    Regards,

HOLY SMOKES! Please keep us informed GT! (readers initials). Folks gotta hear the follow-up to this one. make copious notes and tell us what's going on...risk of disease, or what? Ask how the guy got your name and personal information! Jeez Louise! I think SITC is "Standard Industrial Trade Classification" but how the hell did they get eBay information about your purchase. Press that point - how did they find you...

"I'm currently playing phone tag with the SITC Officer, I will keep you posted on the outcome!"

Damn straight...there's got to be a rational explanation - or things are much closer to hitting the fan than I ever thought...
    Very scary!!!!!
