I've stored propane for 4 years, no problem. Make sure that the propane bottles are the new style with the coarse thread on the outside of the female connection point otherwise a dealer will not refill them. Store the propane bottles in a dark dry place not in direct contact with a concrete floor to reduce condensation and rust on the exterior of the bottle.

As long as it don't leak out, you should be good. One fuel that is stabilized for the long term...

I was thinking about propane today, and the thought occurred to me, "What if SHTF and you can't get your cylinders refilled?"

I happened to be wandering through wally world and stopped in front of the shelf containing 50 or so small coleman-lantern sized screw bottles of propane. I thought it might be a good purchase to store some of these, then it dawned on me...what would I do if I ran out of propane? Coleman white gas was completely gone, and even the quart bottles of Kerosene. In that instant I was convinced that propane was not the way to go.

That would be a good deal if they are the newer bottles. I believe I saw some that were $32 bucks apiece new and empty. I have two 60# bottles I believe they are and the stuff pretty much is good till the bottle rust away.

I recently bought (2) full 20lb er's @ Wally World for $83 out the door. I think they are the Blue Rhino brand you see all over the place. I would stock up on the 1 lb bottles. Last Spring they were $3.74 a twin pack. Last week I checked, $5.76! Cant hurt to have 'em.

Unfortunatly, propane is not allowed in the Shakelford household. If it were, I have lots of cool projects I could do....but alas......

The one-pounders are especially fun to shoot at from distance......gotta provide a nearby ignition source, though ;).

Don't really need a spotter to know if you hit it....

Check out your local gas stations to see if they refill propane tanks. The one above my house will refill my 20# tanks for $13 but it costs $29.99 to switch out at a blue rhino station.
