  • Good Classes?

I am a new person here at xcolony. I am at the age where I am about to go to college. I was wondering if anyone knows any good classes to take at college to make it not a complete waste of time (survival wise anyways).

The best thing you can do for yourself is learn skills that you could both make a living off if u had to, and would also make you an assett.

I'd suggest things like learning to weld, mechanics, electrical knowledge, solar energy etc. I'm sure others will weigh in with good suggestions

The best thing you can do to support the site is pass it on to your friends and fav sites like other forums, facebook, twitter etc. Let people know about us! :)

Take an E.M.T. class basic emergency medical knowledge would be very beneficial in any type of survival situation! but that is just my personal opinion!

Welcome to the 'Colony, first off.....you should post in the intro and give us a bit o' background, for sure, but I'd recommend at least an advanced first aid course, and pick a trade to learn...whether it be a building trade, automotive, fabrication.....skilled tradesman are never far from employment and craftsmen will always be valuable, regardless of the economic situation.....I used to carry a weapon and get paid to do others' "babysitting" and "dirty laundry"....but I've always been able to fall back to a skilled trade, and actually enjoy it more....now it's most likely to be my sole career until SHTF.....then I'll probably be suckered into the laundry biz again.....

Welcome to the site. Try "Heavy equipment operator" or mechanic of small engine repair.

Thanks for the replies, I was planning on doing electrical engineering, and I like the idea of the emt classes.

I personally already have my EMT-Intermediate and alot of other useful emergency certs. Uncle Sam and the big green gun club have provided alot of specialty training in more things than I care to tell rightnow. yes I did deploy to iraq and made it back. I am currently making a long term investment in our food supply. I am currently enrolled in an AAS Horticulture program here in WNC at a community college. This was intentional and accidental. Intentional, because I knew I needed to step up my gardening game and wanted formal training in greenhouse work as well as hydroponics for an indoor vertical vegetable garden and accidental to the fact that I really was not looking to enroll in this particular program, it happened and I am very thankful I did. Next will be renewable energies, specifically solar wind and water-small scale hydroelectric power. I hope this helps

BTW...don't forget to pick something you enjoy....a big check don't always mean a content career...HAVE FUN AND GET PAID DOING IT!!!

First, find something you enjoy that will be your career and pick a degree that way, not by what your parents do or that makes a lot of money.

If you are going to get a bachelors degree then there are a lot of courses you will have to take anyway, they are part of the core curriculum.
Use those classes to your advantage, instead of a plain history course consider military history maybe. You will need to take social scence courses,
look in the catalog and see what you can find that is relevant. Maybe a criminal justice class, or an emergency adminstration and planning course
(to understand what the FEMA people learn)

Engineering technology courses, or vocational courses are good, welding if they offer it

First pick a career you would like. Then pick a degree, fit the prepping courses in as electives or tailor your required classes as much as you can. College
is an expensive way to learn, so don't go trying to learn everything about prepping through college, just take advantage of what they offer and
you have to do anyway. You can learn other things on your own.

U.S. History in general but concentrate on early post-colonial economic history this will tie into prepping for a post modern age.
