  • The "Absolutely do not buy this piece of sh*t" Thread...

Got this idea off another board and kicked my dog for not thinking of it sooner...automatic "Sticky".....

Post your "hindsight" purchases here for all to see...

I'll start us off with a doozy:

Stay away from ANY outdoor backpack sold by WalMart stores if you're gonna be using it more than twice.....ever.....the first time they get even a little damp, they start to unravel, and even a pretty light load will start to pull the seams apart after a coupla dozen miles...and don't even think about traipsing through the scrub with one...they absolutely cannot handle abrasion....they'll tear like toilet paper.....even at around $25, it's a waste of money....

On a side note, I think it's important to avoid heresay...let's keep it to sh*t we've actually wasted OUR OWN MONEY on...not just someone else's opinion....

Pachamyr Grips. I think they are called the Legend Series. The kind with the rubber finger grooves on the front. Mine broke after three days at Front Sight. Not from being dropped, just from shooting a lot.

bates shoes. I bought a pair of these and in 2 months whatever they use to cover the leather on the boots started peeling away. I don't see how they can be sold to police and swat when the uppers start looking like crap after less than 2 months. these are the worst shoes I've ever worn besides anything from payless.

The missus picked me up a new Blurtooth headset today (I like my old one fine)....anywayz, Kmart in Ft. Smith is outty, so she picked it up super cheap....long story short: ESI wireless accessories bluetooth headset ain't worth the packaging....I have over a dozen bluetooth gadgets in my home, including three different makes of cellphone....none of them even detected the presence of the earpiece....

Buyer beware of ESI on the package...this thing retails at around 60 bucks....thank God she only lost 29.99.......since the store is closing, returns are verboten, and I ain't gonna send it to the mfr on my dime, just to get another POS.....or a refund, sans shipping and handling....

Ames True Temper Axe from Lowe's......great axe...until you hit sub-freezing temps....the head expands right off the handle, and the epoxy @ the top bore separates from the handle insert....this is the second one...I thought the first was a fluke, but two-in-a-row = garbage....thank God nobody was standing in front of me....

            ...steer clear.....

The head didn't expand. Steel contracts at low temperatures. Is it the ax with the yellow fiber galss handle?

I wish I had thought just one second longer prior to hitting the reply button!!!

On second thought, the steel contracting would leave the hole for the handle larger!

I bought (and paid way too much for) a Mernickle Holster that in my humble opinion was and continues to be sub-par for materials. I got the bandolier holster for a Ruger Alaskan and even though the president of the company assured me personally via email that the leather was the best in the land ... it failed after only one hunting season ...one of the adjuster grommets on the waist strap pulled out of the leather... I kept it only so I could use it as a demonstration of what not to buy.... stamped cheesy buckle.... leather that is very thin feels dry when brand new... and fails within on hunting season.... the holster part of it isn't too bad so I am keeping it and cutting the rest of teh crap away and remaking the rig using harness leather and brass hardware (that in my humble opinion should have been done from the begining... in fact if you look at pictures of the thing on line it shows a brass buckle... nut the cheap stamped crap that you receive in the mail!)

Red that is a sure sign that the holster was made in mexico or overseas. The Co. Pres. should be shot as he undoubtably knew long ago that the product was shit.

Lol....it was the red handled version, and I might clarify that we are both right....the steel contracted, thereby expanding the mortise...

Coleman wire saws. I tried cutting a 1-2 inch STICK and it snapped lol. The saw btw, not the branch!

                            Schrade Large Machete;
This knife has a welded tang and a cheap rubber handle. That is what happens when you make a purchase online and rely on the ratings of others who may or may not know anything.
It did take some pretty good abuse before the tang broke, but for around $50 it is a rip off.
I ground down the lower half of the blade and wrapped it with cord for a handle and now I have a 7" survival knife instead of a 13" machete. On the plus side it is made with very good steel, holds an edge well.
FYI if you ever use an electric grinder to shape tempered steel go slow and dip the steel in water frequently to keep it from heating up and losing temper. I refabbed this one in the winter and dropped in the snow every 30 seconds or so. worked just fine.
