            Hello,

I am new to this forum, though not new to the subject of discussion.
The acronym BOB I assume to mean bug out bag. Please correct me if that is wrong.
To me, if you have to tot your survival food out, your already screwed. Long term food stuffs should have been long ago cached in mulitple alternate locations. Those locations should not be your primary residence either. In those locations should be an EMF box (faraday cage) filled with basic shortwave radio/gps/cb band communications, and AMFM radio all battery charged and hand crank combo if you can get them.
Long term food, tactical gear, and in general everything you need to make it 30-60 days.

I've travel extensively in my life, and have taken lessons away from those travels. The most important of which is that you need to be prepared to 'move fast' when the time comes. Finding yourself in the middle of an attempted coup tends to teach a lot of things to you, like keep your BOB light. 3 days food/water, light close quarter weapons (100 yards range) and good optics.

Speaking of three days, I keep all ORP's/TBOL's within 3 days foot travel of my primary residence.

So the answer to the core question is, my BOB's are geared to mission specifics.
That mission is primarily staying alive while I reach TBOL's. <50 pounds in each BOB.
I make the assumption that in that time there will be many attempting to do as I am doing, and they may not be friendly. I also assume that since I am Bugging out, life in general has taken a chaotic turn and is subject to dynamic flux. I.E. rapidily changing conditions.
BOB's are therefore primarily tactical/recon in nature. To me, anything else is asking to die.

My opinion for what it's worth.

CWI you are exactly right. Should carry a light BOB with necessities to get to a cache or to your BOL. I will be transporting but hoping to never use any firearm during my bug out. If I have to use a firearm I know I will be fairly screwed. Too much attention will be drawn to me which could compromise my BOL's. My BOB isn't too different from my short week backpacking config. My main goal with my BOB is to cover ground while carrying whatever gear I couldn't already cache.

I added a tomahawk along with a nice compact optics piece and 2 two minute smoke units. (these are for signal or to cover my escape) Also, a collapsible 20"plus baton. one multi channel water proof hand held radio not sure of the value. A few paper cone coffee filters for water filtration
My previous posts on this BoB issue include all the rest. I will re visit the contents now. A complete set of clothes except shoes since I expect to be wearing some as I move it. A Medical pack with blood clotters (Military Grade) $$$! Large to small bandages, ointments, Ace bandage etc. Also, a fire kit, Magnesium fire starter kit, pressed and oiled mini fire starter sticks, matches, 9V battery, fine steel wool, lighter. Lots of options. A 10 inch HD Survival knife, small pocket knife, 3 HD Contactor bags for temp shelter and ponchos, foil, electrical tape, zip tyes, water purification tablets, a days worth of liquids (reuse the containers) 3 days worth of food bars, a couple of light sticks, small flashlight. Small compact sleeping bag, Vasaline to deal with chaffing or application to ones feet since you maybe hoofing it. Finally the last hing I need to add but it always jumps out is a $100 or more in cash. The better half and I have a plan to meet up then head out to a secure area.

I prefer to not be seen or heard and carry items that are well tested to stay that way. If you are one of those with a combat priority you will quickly become a casualty for a non existant medivac. Those who really want to survive in a real SHTF event will find out that combat is a lot easier to get into and very hard to learn how to avoid. Learning the skills of camoflage, traveling quietly and unseen day or night will be the skills of a real survivor.

Let the armchair commandos dream of all their superior firepower & how well they will do in a confrontation. If you learn the art of observation, detecting & avoiding a serious event you will be far ahead of others who think they are in the movies! If you remember in most every armed encounter there is a 50% chance of being a loser! Think about that for a long time and in depth before you commit your planning to a macho Rambo scenario.

                          Be smart,not dead or wounded.

Mine is just to get me somewhere. I have 4 or 5 different locations to head to, one is an intermediate location where I store
a complete set of gear and a diesel vehicle ready to go, about 20 miles from home. I also have ten acres, with a well, solar, and
travel trailer that is my primary BOL, also stocked. I have family members in the country in two other directions as well.

That said, if I can't get to my intermediate location with the vehicle, I may be on foot for several hundred miles depending on
final destination. My BOB is therefore designed to be light. I use a bivy sack with a sil tarp for shelter, an alcohol/fuel tab stove that
weighs an ounce, etc. I have long range hiking experience and know the gear both works and lets you move quicker than a heavy
                            load.

I always carry a pistol on my person, and have a FN FiveSeven and 500 rounds ready to go in the BOB. I would likely also carry a rifle,
but would not be trying to hump 40 magazines and 1000 rounds of rifle ammo. I have a spotting scope, radio, and would try to avoid
hostile contact. I would likely wear at least my soft body armor, but possibly also rifle plates, it all depends. In another month I will have my
Gen 3 NV too. all with the objective of avoiding hostiles.

Support gear can be made very light. All of my support gear for shelter, food, clothing, etc weigh under 20 pounds. So by weight much more
of my gear is tactical since the weapons, ammo, and armor weigh over 30 pounds including what is worn or carried. That shouldn't imply that
I've scimped on the camping type gear, its just that I have learned and invested in making that gear as light as possible. (titanium and other
ultra light materials are not cheap) Unfortunately on the tactical side there is not as much you can do to go ultra light. Ammunition and firearms
have a minimum wieght, rifle plates have weight, soft armor too.
My weapon can kill, it isn't limited to mere assault

I HAVE ENOUGH "STUFF" TO MAINTAIN for 2 weeks at my current comfort level, longer if I ration myself. I figure after 2 weeks of going without society will haven fallen apart and it will be time to resort to true survival. I feel that I could do better than most in that situation by lving off the land and on the move until I get somewhere or things straghten out. Beyond that any planning is futile. I cannot begin to think that I know what to expect and try to be mentally and physically prepared for the worst. One day at a time.
